Ambition

It was 1 year ago when Francois joined the Rune Knights, and today was his official status as a Rune Knight. He has made enemies and comrades during those years, and 'what better way to celebrate than a grand feast?' is what other nobles would think to celebrate, be it their anniversary or milestones. Francois? He just takes his day off back in the Morgan family estate, celebrating with his dear brothers, with the exception of Michael. It is scary to think that his brother is being possessed by not just one demon, but several. As much as he is concerned for the wellbeing of his twin sibling, today is the day he thinks only of himself and reminisce the past by pouring a glass of wine for himself all alone in their study.


It was around this time that Francois completed his training as a swashbuckler. As a prodigy, he has learned all what he can from the best within a short period of time, and with his natural aptitude of magic like the prodigy he is, he has created his own magic, one that would leave his enemies with no room to cast or chant their fickle magics against him just by being close to them. "So, what will you do from here on out?" His mentor and colleagues would ask, and he already had a goal in mind, "To become a Rune Knight." he would respond.

It isn't just about status that made him want to join the Rune Knights. It isn't about influence. No, it was to help preserve the peace in all of Fiore and to eliminate the threat the Dark Guilds pose against it. Ever since his siblings' parents' lives were taken by the hand of the Dark Guild, he, along with Michael, yearned to avenge their parents. Michael joined the ranks of the Arch Vorbrunt Order and became a solider of his own right, while as of now, Francois is still in the process of joining the Rune Knights. Even if he was rejected, he can still work as a guildless mage.

His colleagues were delighted to learn his skills as a swashbuckler would be used for the greater good of Earthland, however, there are those who envied him. He was perfect in every way to them, and it ticked them off. They wanted to see him fail. They wanted him to wallow in despair at his failure. But to some, they wanted him dead, and through his death, they would think they would surpass him. And thus, within the shadowy alleys of Era, the would be murderers plotted his demise.

Francois finally arrives on Era. The trip from his home to the town was exhausting, but not much. He still had a lot of stamina to spare. He wanted to wander around for a bit but first, he has to submit his credentials to the Rune Knights HQ, hoping to be allowed to join their ranks. He is quite optimistic that he will be accepted, with his accolades being very impressive. One wouldn't think twice of accepting him immediately.

Gripping the hilt of his rapier, he takes his first step towards his ambition, stopping midway when he stumbled upon a branch of his favorite cafe, the Menagerie. Perhaps it would be best to take a little break by enjoying a cup of tea and some scrumptious crumpets? The establishment is a 5 star cafe, so quality tea would be expected.

As he sat by one of the tables outside the cafe, a waitress approaches his table. "Hi! Welcome to the Menagerie. What would you like to have today, good sir?" The waitress says as she takes out a small pad of paper and pen to write his order. "I'll have your most excellent Chamomile Tea and some crumpets, please." He orders, with the waitress delightedly writing his order on paper. She leaves his table as she sends the order to the kitchen. "And now, we wait." He pulls out a book from his bag and starts to read it as he waits for his order to arrive.

His reading was cut short when a man approached him to ask of his book. Inspecting the stranger in front of him, and by the appearance of his uniform, he determined that he looks like a Rune Knight - no, he IS a Rune Knight. His eyes never deceive him as he should know how Rune Knights are dressed like based on what he's read before, and the man standing in front of him is a genuine one. This is an opportunity for him to make a good impression of himself. Opportunistic as he is, he cannot let this chance slip by.

Before he could even get a chance to reply, he saw a brief vision of some sorts. Not exactly a vision, but maybe it is telling him something? He saw texts of blue and yellow with a star shaped bullet symbol, possibly hinting him at the man's likes. That much is obvious to him as he saw him like... ★ Pastries and ★ Positivity? And judging from the texts alone, he discerned his name to be Beaux. Napedia, though, is foreign to him. He has not heard of that country before.

With those in mind, Francois gave him a warm smile as what he glimpsed from the texts would surely help him build a good impression of himself. "I'm reading the Valor Tactics. I've learned as much from this book as it will help me on my future endeavors, if fate be willing." He says as he closed his book and set it aside the table, interested in establishing camaraderie with a Rune Knight. He cannot deny that it is such a good book, for it taught him unorthodox strategems and tactics in winning fights. However, publication is limited and auctioned at a very high bid, as well as it is brought from overseas, hailing from a distant eastern country. He's lucky to have parents who are avid book collectors and merchants."I understand why it's all too familiar. Afterall, publication of this is limited and highly expensive. If I recall correctly, there was only 6 of these."

He has expected much of his encounter with the Rune Knight, and he finds joy in getting exactly what he wants. As the Rune Knight, who introduced himself as Beaux, extended his hand for a shake, this was an opportunity for him to establish friendly relationships with them all to make a good impression. "Pleasure to meet your acquaintance. The name's Francois Louvre Morgan, but you may call me Franz." He says as he reciprocates the gesture by shaking his his hand. It is a habit of him to introduce himself as such, being the noble that he is, or perhaps it was only him that introduces himself in such a manner. Nevertheless, he has established camaraderie, if only a little, due to their similar interests. He may also gain a small recognition as the prodigal wizard who recently finished their training as a swashbuckler.


"And please! Have a seat. I heard their sweet buns are divine in this establishment, though I haven't tried them myself. I'm more of a croissant person." He says as he used the visions he gleamed upon to his advantage and attempting to engage in a conversation. It was his goal to establish a good rapport with a Rune Knight, but he didn't think this opportunity would come so soon, not that he is complaining. He sees his situation not as mere coincidence, but a blessing to him that fate chose him to uphold the laws of the land. In truth, it really was just coincidence. Nevertheless, he must work hard to establish a good rapport with the Major General.

Excellent. He managed to secure contact with a high ranking official of the rune knight. To think he would stumble upon as high ranking as him felt like he had hit a jackpot, though only having similar interests wouldn’t rouse his interest. No, he wanted him to acknowledge his skill as a swordsman who is capable of upholding the law of the land. A demonstration of skills, perhaps, though if he does it now, it would only sabotage his chances to get into the Rune Knights and make a humiliation of himself. He does not want to come off as too arrogant to Beaux. After all, humility is his greatest asset, and his huge ego a hidden blade. Like his parents taught him - there is a time and place for everything.

He does not want to bore his newfound companion so he decided to break the silence with a question. Nothing important, but he was interested to know what it means to be a Rune Knight to him. “So, humor me, if you will. What does it take for one to become a Rune Knight? Is it a sense of duty?” He asked him, “Convictions, perhaps?” Both was true to Francois as he had the mind to pursue his goals with persistence. It is out of genuine curiosity that he asked him this question, and depending on the answer, it might serve as inspiration for him to do better, not that he is already doing his best.

“Let’s just say I’m curious to know.” Francois responded to Beaux’ inquiry. As much as he wanted to say he wants to join the Rune Knights now, he thought it best to stir the conversation to a desirable result, which is to be recommended into their ranks. He wouldn’t want to inflate his ego so terribly and make everything go south now, would he? He isn’t expecting to be recruited into a higher position. No, he prefers building his reputation from the ground up. He wants to show to him, and to them, what he’s capable of as a prodigy. A couple of seconds passed after he answered his question when the waitress approached their table with a tray in hand, setting his meal to his side of the table. “Here’s your chamomile tea and crumpets, sir! Enjoy your meal.” The waitress said and left before he could even utter a simple ‘thank you’. The Menagerie must be terribly short staffed. He could only nod to her when she left.

In the past, he would be asked by his classmates what his plans would be after he graduates. Naturally, because of the incident years prior that caused the death of his, his twins, and his step sibling’s parents, he wanted to set out and avenge his parents by eliminating the dark guild involved. Even after the incident, his memories with them were more than sentimental. But he isn’t one to disclose his true goals to his peers. He has this paranoia that whatever he tells his peers can be used against him, either through blackmail or directly interfering with his goals. No, he doesn’t trust his acquaintances, or even friends, with his personal life save for his family. “I’ll be the best wizard in all of Earthland.” He’d tell his peers. Naturally he’s praised for his ambition which was more than obvious to them, but one question stuck out to him - “Which guild will you be joining?”

He had not thought about it. He had not considered long term ambitions in the past. When he heard that his twin brother, Michael, was joining some sort of military organization, he reflected that maybe he can’t do everything himself. He can’t just make the world a better place and free from the influences of the dark guild all by himself. “I will join the ranks of the Rune Knights.” He decided to himself when he was asked that same question before.

And standing before him is a high ranking Rune Knight.

“Well, actually, I considered joining a guild after graduating from the magic academy. And from being trained in sword fighting.” He said to Beaux, sipping his cup of Chamomile tea before resuming, “Though I’ve heard great things from guilds, I just don’t think I’m that much of a guild person. After all, a noble like me would have a hard time fitting in.” That much is true, but also it's because of some ill rumors from other guilds. It was the guild of Fairy Tail that stood out the most because of their history. Thus, the prospect of joining a guild is beyond him.
