    To Hunt a Vampire 1

This was not a good idea, or that was what was going through his mind now... Which was the opposite of him wishing to prove his worth to his new guild.

He recently joined Fairy Tail and was happy to join with his new friend, Arcadia. The sweet and kick-ass little girl of a Dragon Slayer impressed him. However, she welcomed him to Fairy Tail with open arms. He had longed to join Fairy Tail as a kid, even now after their reputation was tarnished...

... still the reality was a thing to get used to. THe Fairy Tail guild was indeed more like a mercenary guild, not so much a wizard's guild. That and some members looked down at him, as a kid and a summoner. Making him look like he was not worthy to be among the stronger guys... So what if he was a Celestial Wizard?! That was no reason to treat him differently-- and now he had Leo, one of the twelve Zodiac spirits to depend on. He would prove them wrong.

So without anyone's knowledge, or the master-- he took a grade higher mission for him. Vampires. The guild was asked to have someone help deal with a new breed of vampires. It did make him a bit nervous to take on-- but there was no other one he could take on that he felt he had a chance to handle.

So there he was, wandering down the lonely, overcast, spooky road through the Curse Lands. A lone mage, clad in his blue jacket which now sported the Fairy Tail logo on his back and his breast pocket. He had a pair of headphones over his ears, listening to upbeat music to give him a bit of comfort in this bleak atmosphere. On his shoulder, was the transparent spirit of "Ruby Carbuncle" who always loved his company, but even she seemed nervous about the ominous space around them.

He planned to charge right in and get the book-- since it was guarded to keep non-magic users out. Stupid idea, if you asked Zachary for an enchantment. However-- there was one thing that made Zachary feel a bit confident to take on this mission.

From what he knew about this breed of Vampire, was while they were resistant to garlic and couldn't be staked-- there was one thing that was constant. They were unable to tolerate sunlight. His new and best spirit, was a spirit of the sun. He smiled as he felt the key he tied around his neck, his valued keepsake.

Ruby nuzzled his cheek, concerned by the scary trees and grey surroundings and gave soft squeaks. "Calm down, Ruby. I know its scary here, but there is nothing heree we can't handle. If you want you can go back--" At the offer to return, all Ruby did was lift up into Zachary's jacket and crawled under it, finding his inside pocket to hide in. He just rolled his eyes, amused and walked on.

He soon stopped as he found the house. It was a pretty large, one, almost like a manor in size. Three stories total with large barred gates. Luckily, he was able to get into the gates and make his way up to the door. At first, he worried he would need a key, but the doors were open as he tested the door. Taking off his headphones, now was the time to be more alert and aware. He felt alone, despite Ruby in his pocket.

He looked around the outside, being sure he was indeed alone. He had this strange feeling he wasn't alone-- that someone was nearby. Still, he couldn't figure out who or what. It was times like this he wish he had learned other magic that helped him be more aware of his surroundings. It was just feelings at time.

Still, he took a deep breath and opened the door. A ghastly wind blew past him, like if the house sighed. His body froze for a moment-- and felt Ruby shiver against his chest. "For a spirit, you are awfully lively. " he joked to himself. He would summon a more capable spirit for company, but he had to use his magic power wisely here. He just had to find the book and get out.

Swallowing his fear, he stepped into the house and closed the door behind him.

    923/3500 words ▸ @Zachary-Sirius ▸A Rather Spoopy House
It hadn't been long since he stood at the birth of a new Guild that then became his new home. He very much enjoyed the cold scenery that surrounded the castle that served as their Hall. V mostly kept to himself, writing a verse or two here and there, when he felt compelled to. What he enjoyed the most, however, was the Guild mark he was given. It was a quick access ticket for him to get back to the Guild Hall and skip the straining journey up the mountain. V took advantage of it a number of times, after he came back from his various travels.

On his latest venture outside the castle walls, however, the tattooed man came across some rather interesting information. It seemed that hunters of various monstrosities have encountered a strange breed, as they called it, of vampires. As a result, hunters were trying to employ help from outside of their own ranks. While V didn't see himself as a sell-sword, he saw the situation as an opportunity to grasp. He needed to continue honing his skills, afterall.

Earlier that day, after he gained the information after his little exploration session, he managed to meet the leader of said hunters by chance. She was strongly built, armed to the teeth with a number of weapons and special trinkets, that he could only assume were for different kinds of monsters. V was quite surprised by this development, but he swiftly composed himself and made sure to acquire any and all bits of information that he could squeeze out of her. The issue was that not even the hunters themselves knew a lot about this strange phenomenon. It seemed that all the knowledge the hunters have amassed was not enough - none of the strategies they have formed and compiled seemed to affect this new breed of vampires. Unfortunately for the leader, V had no answers to provide. Though he promised to look into the matter, being genuinely intrigued.

Before the mage left, however, the hunter leader gave him a tip of there possibly being a place where knowledge on the new vampires could be found was a house that used to be a home to a rather crafty hunter, who protected the house with a barrier that only allowed entities with magic to pass through. Which, as she noted, was an issue for a group of hunters who did not possess the gift of magic. Suddenly, every piece of information he managed to gather fell into place. It became crystal clear as to why they were turning to mages for help.

V was unsure as to how long he would be gone, but he was used to living on nearly nothing, so the journey ahead didn't frighten him. However, his physical condition was a different issue, entirely. His body was aching, as he walked through the blackened forest, where the house was supposed to be. The sandals he wore nor the cane he held onto were muffled by the dark soil that stretched out below him. The atmosphere was definitely trying to be spooky, but V felt confident in his strength and abilities. His magic sensory was also helpful, especially since he seemed to notice presence of somebody. Somebody weaker than himself. He wondered who were they and what they sought in this bleak place.

Soon enough, as he expected, the mage came across the house that the leader had described to him. It was rather large, nearly a manor. The presence he felt very recently seemed to have moved into the house. It was entirely possible that V was not the only one to undertake this challenge, but he felt confused, nonetheless. He passed through the gates himself and reached the front door. Knocking on the door seemed like pointless effort to him. Thus he braced himself and pushed the door. With a grunt and immense pain burning on the left side of his body, it gave away.

With a heavy sigh the tattooed man would step inside and let go of the door, letting it slowly slide back into its original position. As soon as he stepped inside, he noticed the source of the presence that he had been detecting. It seemed to be blue-haired boy, wearing a jacket of sorts that had a very clear symbol on its back. V was sure that he had seen it before and he was quite certain that it belonged to a Guild. Ultimately, however, he had no clue. He was not as familiar with other Guilds as he probably should be, now that he was a part of one. Although the mage was sure that the boy must have been aware of his presence, he still would quietly approach his back. His lips would curl into one of his smirks, as he partially leaned on the cane for support. "I do not know whether you are brave or just plainly stupid for venturing into a place like this on your own, boy." V would say in his chilled voice, laced with a hint of amusement. It was true, that V was there on his own, but he was almost absolutely certain that his strength surpassed that of the boy. However, there was still the option of the boy being so powerful, that he could easily mask his magic signature and appear weak at first glance. Still, the tattooed man felt a little bit mischievous. Perhaps his attitude would bite him back, but he was prepared to face the consequences.

The inside of the house was just as creepy as it was indeed outside. THe house was elegantly decorated but worn down by abandonment and time. Cobwebs littered the chandelier and the gloomy portraits were worn, torn or faded. Not a single lamp or crystal was lit and the only light came from the windows. Zachary was entranced by the 'classic' haunted house vibe he got from this place. It was almost cliche to him-- as he recalled the fake attractions he would attend at the carnivals or trips he went to for amusement parks. From his pocket, Ruby poked her head out to look around, curious as Zachary patted the Carbuncle on the head to ease her fears.

Even though he knew what he needed to find, he didn't know where to start. "Huh... where to begin searching? If it is in a library or something, where would the Library be?" he thought aloud softly.

It was then he heard the metallic click-- the sound of a cane and a voice behind him. He froze for a moment, frightened-- and Ruby let out a squirlish squeak. The little mouse-like creature scurried along Zachary's jacket till it was on his shoulder and hissed at him.

Zachary turned around to see the man behind him. He had shaggy black hair and black clothing, toeing a cane along as he went. He seemed casual, almost at ease with everything-- as he pretty much spoke down to Zachary, which made him frown at the stranger.

"I'm a lot of things--but stupid isn't one of them," Zachary retorted back, his hand instantly going to his jacket pocket as his hand settled on the keyring that held his spirit keys. "Any particular reason why you would say that?"

This would of been likely to happen. Another mage, from another guild had come to take the job. However, Zachary had an odd feeling about this guy. His magic seemed, different and spooky by the feel of it. "I'm a wizard and I am here for finding a lost tome about Vampires--"

It was then his eyes widened as he took a step back. His hands gripped one of his keys in preparation to use. "Wait a minute?! You're one of them aren't you!" he declared, presuming by V's gothic like appearance. "I should of known from your black hair and shiny pale skin like some glorified supernatural romance novel."

The snap might have been a bit on the nose for V, but if anything, he couldn't blame him. The stranger did scream 'supernatural' from his appearance, cryptic greeting, and tattoos on his body.

"Who are you then?" he asked.

V did feel mischievous and the reaction he received from his sudden appearance was most definitely worth it. Though right after he was faced with a hissing familiar and an irritated teen, questioning as to why he did what he did. Perhaps he shouldn't have done that, after all. The boy began explaining his reason behind his presence at the shady manor, but his demeanor changed mid-sentence. V was then pegged as 'being one of them', listing the tattooed man's features as proof. The mage would look downwards, examining himself with a slightly confused look on his face. He supposed that he had demeanor that one would associate with the supernatural. The boy finished off his surprise attack of questions, accusations and comments by a final question - who was he?

As much as V wanted to think his answers more thoroughly, he was there with a clear purpose. He didn't want to stay in the abandoned house for any longer than he truly needed to. "I have no name, for I am but two days old..." The mage let his icy voice trail off, despite the fact that he wished to cut this situation as short as he could. But he simply couldn't help himself and ring true to his nature. "Just kidding. You may call me V." The man would add afterwards with a smirk playing on his lips once more. "To address one of your concerns, no. I am not a supernatural being." Though he surely knew one very closely. "However, I must question your decision of arriving here." The mage would retort as he slightly shifted his posture to alleviate some of the pain. "From what I have been told, this.. new breed of vampires seems to be quite capable." The tattooed man would warn, in a sense, the boy standing in front of him.

V wished to just shoo the boy away, but his intention was interrupted by a low moan from behind him. Sometimes the greater senses did come in handy. The man would turn his head around, just as he witnessed a humanoid shaped spirit pass through the closed front door. It seemed to float about rather slowly, but V was sure that presence of the spirit meant that it was high time he moved forward. The spirit seemed harmless from distance. The emphasis being on distance. The mage was unsure as to what could happen if the spirit was allowed to get near. Would he become frozen in place or too paralyzed to move? Something worse, such as a curse being placed upon them? Or perhaps nothing at all?

However, the presence of the ghostly apparition was just more generally annoying, rather than unnerving, for the tattooed man. "As much as I would like to suggest for you to leave, right now I would recommend going forward." V would say as he turned his head back to face the teen. "We seem to have some company, already." He would explain and slightly throw his cane upwards to catch it within moments, right under its top part. The situation that the mage found himself in required him to move fast, thus he had to cast away the support of his cane, momentarily. It also meant that this whole endeavor suddenly changed into an endurace run for his mental stability. A game of 'how much pain can your mind withstand before you crumple on the floor like a sack of potatoes?', that he oh so detested. The tattooed man would then walk forward, cane in hand. His knees shook a little, but did not fail him. Yet.

The man wanted to keep going, but he stopped in his tracks, right next to the teen. He was unsure of where exactly to go. The staircase in front of him and the corridors that stretched out on either sides of the entrance hall were just a tip of an iceberg of choices available. "But where to...?" V would murmur under his breath. He was unable to pinpoint the location of the book, as the barrier that surrounded the house gave off a signature, making it tough for the mage.

Zachary was on edge, as was Ruby as the man walked forward and introduced himself of having no name. The aura of mystery and the creepy vibe continued putting Zachary on guard till he caught the smirk and comment. "Just kidding. You can call me V." Zachary frowned as the smart-ass comment made itself known. LIkely he was not a vampire as described, but still, a person who enjoyed to see Zachary squirm. "Jeez. That's very helpful. V, huh?" Zachary asked.

It wasn't completely uncommon for wizards to take on alias or titles to protect themselves. He should consider having one too. Despite the rather creepy entrance giving the wrong impression, Zachary straightened up and faced the tattooed man. "Name's Zachary, from Fairy Tail." he introduced himself. Ruby just curled around Zachary's neck, peeking out from behind his neck and using her jeweled tail to hold on to him.

Before Zachary could bring up why he was here-- beyond just the mission itself, the howl of a spirit could be heard as V warned him to the presence of it. Zachary quickly reached into his pocket as V made his way towards him. However, the sudden halt to his movement made Zachary concerned. He seemed physically weak-- hence his use of a cane. It was when he saw it. A ghastly white cloud that swept down the hallway. It swished and moved but as it came closer, they could see a humanoid shape-- with arms and ahead of a ghastly face that roared out at him.

It approached fast as Zachary drew out the celestial silver key. The key that opened the gate of Amethyst Cat. He tried to move fast but the spirit was near in arm's reach. "Open, Gate of the Lynx--" he cried as he held the key out.

The spirit closed in and was about to make contact with Zachary, now having stepped up to protect V---

-- then suddenly, the ghost became a mist with a wail and cry. It vanished like smoke in the presence of light as it had merely touched the key Zachary was about to use. As it vanished like a cloud of chalk dust, Zachary stood there, frozen. He blinked, wondering what the hell just happened.

It took him a few moments to grasp that the ghost had indeed vanished and he lowered his hand with the key still in a deathgrip. "OKay... what the hell just happened there?" Zachary asked, more to himself than V at the moment.

What Zachary didn't realize-- was the ghost was repelled by items of silver, which were magical qualities in their own right. As Zachary looked down at his key-- the gleam of the silver key made itself known to be what saved him. Not the summoning of the spirit, but merely possessing a silver object was enough to repel an attacking spirit before it would have harmed them in any capacity.

Naturally, it was amazingly beginner's luck that Zachary's Silver Keys were what saved them. The irony of how silver keys to Celestial Wizards were considered weak and not as good as the Zodiac-- but, in this case, they were valuable to survive the spirits of this place.

Of course, V would notice this and chalk it up to the boy's own luck.

As Zachary got his barrings back, he turned to V. "Um, are you okay?" he asked, noticing how V wasn't really in the best of physical shape.

At least for the moment-- they would have time to figure out their next move.

    2215/3500 words ▸ @Zachary-Sirius ▸A Rather Spoopy House
The teen didn't seem to be quite as pleased with V's answer as much as V himself was and it made him feel rather gleeful on the inside. That feeling was one of the few things that the man lived for. At least the boy wasn't too grumpy to not give him his name in return - Zachary of the Fairy Tail Guild. Much like with the names of his guildmates and the name of the cat lady he had met fairly recently, the tattooed man stashed the knowledge safely in his mind. Though it was interesting to meet a mage from a different Guild. V reckoned that the symbol on the back of boy's jacket was the symbol of Fairy Tail, as it did seem familiar. The mage heard some shuffling behind him and then Zachary seemed to be summoning something. V felt slightly irritated that Zachary decided to ignore his advice, but a sudden wail of the spirit made his head turn around.

And sure enough, the spirit was gone. Zachary was standing there, seemingly somewhat baffled, as V was, as he did not witness the final demise of the spirit. However, the boy held something in his hand, a key. Were the spirits in this place allergic to keys? No, it would be a bit too specific, though V couldn't confirm or deny the assumption. The other possible explanation could be the material of the key. While V couldn't exactly get a good look at what exactly the key in the boy's possession was made of, the mage could only guess that it was most likely a material that had innate magical properties. The one material that immediately came to his mind was silver. Though the tattooed man didn't think the spirits were usually affected by it, whatever the truth was, he felt confident leaving the ghastly presences to the young mage.

The tattoed man was slightly taken by surprise when Zachary asked him whether he was fine. Did he seem ill or hurt? He wasn't entirely sure. Technically speaking, V had plenty of issues and personal problems on his shoulders, but he had been fighting them for so long, he considered them normal, at that point. "I am quite alright." He would reply to the Fairy Tail mage's concern. "I shall be leaving the restless spirits to you, as you seem to have a way of dealing with them." The mage would add, as he heard yet another creepily stretched out howl. However, this time it came from his right, making V turn his head to his other side. And there it was - a ghost, pulling itself through a wall in a heap of a bloody mess as it wailed on. V considered himself quite steeled to such appearances, but even a sight like the one unfolding right then and there was starting to slowly creep up his spine.

If the things kept going like they were up to then, the mage had a feeling that he and the boy would find themselves surrounded before long. They had to keep going. "We do need to keep going." V would press on Zachary, trying to urge him to move in a chilly voice. "The book won't find itself." He would add and head towards the dusty staircase. Though there was plenty of dust present on top of each stair, V would've thought that there would be more, if the house was truly abandoned. Perhaps there was somebody present, who disturbed the layer of dust on upper floors? There was only one way to find out.

It seemed V was fine as he commented to leave the spirits to Zachary, who blinked and looked at his keys. "It seems very odd how the ghosts would be afraid of my silver Celestial Keys. I mean... really? " he said, not knowing the fact that silver repelled ghosts.

Howeve,r the conversation ended quickly as the sound of more ghosts could be heard. At V's suggestion to move, Zachary didn't complain. Ruby tucked into his jacket collar and Zachary took off with V, going as fast as they could.

Zachary scaled up the stairs fast and down the hall at a steady pace, but V was a bit more on the slow end. Just slightly. He did observe the dark hallway and noticed it still looked well furbished despite its age. Gargoyle status lined the halls as the numerous rooms and halls branched out.

After a considerable distance, the wails would go away-- they would have outran the ghosts for the moment. Zachary took a moment to pause. As a wizard, while he might have been faster than V but lacked the endurance as most would have. With so many hallways and rooms, finding one book would be difficult.

"We need a better way to search them out," Zachary suggested as he held on to his keys. "This can take us forever..." He soon looked to the key he was holding and soon found one that seemed to gleam at him. One with the picture of a blue eagle on its end.

A smile slowly formed on Zachary's face as he turned to V. "I think I got it." He said and pointed the key ahead of him. "Open, Gate of the Eagle! Aquila!" A flash of light and the magic circle with a keyhole appeared, surrounded by stars. The circle burst and a bird of light seemed to fly out.

    Enter V. Helsing QINqdR9

The light faded to find a brown and white eagle flying out through the hallway. It looped back to Zachary as the boy extended an arm forward, allowing the large bird to perch on it.

"Hey, buddy! Did ya miss me?" Aquila said, or as Zachary liked to nickname him as Cobalt Eagle. The eagle flapped his wings lightly as he rested on Zachary's arm.

"Good to see you, Cobalt." he replied and turned to V. "Aquia here can see through solid objects. He has a real sharp eye. He can probably narrow down our search."

"Daw, stop. You're embarrassing me" the eagle cawed with a hint of sarcasm. "So, what exactly are you looking for?"

"A library. Somewhere where they would store a valuable book. ." Zachary said.

With that , Aquila took off and flew down the hall-- beginning to investigate and search for the target room

Zachary seemed to be unaware that silver had certain properties within it, but V decided not to bring it up. One day he would figure it out. Or perhaps in couple of minutes, if the spirits continued to appear at the rate they were up to that point. The young mage passed by V and the tattooed man was the second to reach the top of the untidy stairs. His knees felt slightly shaky, but he had to press on. Whatever endurance he had, it would be tested. The area on top of the stairs consisted of primarily dark hallways that were decorated with plenty of gargoyle statues. There were signs of wear and tear of time, but in general the interior looked surprisingly well.

The noise of the spirit was barely hearable for V, thus he assumed that his newfound job companion did not hear it, unless he was a slayer himself. They were safe, for the time being. There was no telling when a yet another restless spirit would get attracted to their presence. The tattoed man had his cane in hand, prepared to go down one of the hallways and scout for the book they were supposed to find. Thankfully for him, the young Fairy Tail mage had an idea up his sleeve.

It turned out that Zachary was an owner of a number of keys, one of which he used to summon a familiar. While it was an avian, that was named Aquila, it bore a tiny bit of resemblance to the familiar that the boy had with him before. The bird appeared in light and sat down on the arm that Zachary had offered. The two exchanged a bit of friendly banter, making V want to lean on his cane for a little bit to alleviate some of the pressure. The young mage explained the situation to his summon, who promptly took off, most likely because of the quality perk that the boy mentioned - the avian being able to see through solid objects. The tattooed man thought that the ability must've had its limitations, but it seemed that Aquila was able to give them direction to follow. "Go on ahead. Lead the way." The mage would nod and follow the bird himself, though he would most likely just stay a little bit to the back, his ears prepared to catch onto any suspicious sound that could come up behind them.

Aquila flew down the hallway, pausing every once in a while to allow Zachary and V to catch up. Naturally, the eagle was fast and would pause by flapping his wings in place to keep up. "Come on, slowpokes! The early bird catches the bookworm!" he egged on to keep em motivated.

Zachary sighed as he caught up and allowed him to go. "Eh, Aquila has a rather compeititive personality," Zachary explained to V, hoping the man wouldn't be offended. It seemed Zachary was a bit more socialable than V, but he was sure that V had his own reasons for being on guard. Hell, Zachary had been up to that point.

After a few turns in the hall-- Aquila stopped as his eyes gazed through its wall and stopped at one of the large two-sided doors. "Hey-Hey! I see a lot of books in here! Good place for a bookworm like you, Zachary, to roost. " Aquila called out to them, urging them to catch up.

Zachary soon reached the doors and paused for a moment. "Is it safe?" he asked.

"Only thing I see dangerous in there is if you are afraid of demonic dust-bunnies," Aquila said sarcastically, "Speaking of. I'm hungry. Can we get something to eat when this is over?"

Zachary didn't answer that as they were there on a mission. He would pay his spirits with food sometimes as a thank you but now was not the time. Once V caught up, he pushed the door open and looked inside.

Indeed, they found it. The library that they sought was old. A single large window illuminated the place with moonlight-- or what amount came through the cloudy sky. The entire walls were lined with bookshelves, tons of books worn or covered in dust and cobwebs. A few reliefs were placed along the bookshelf, adding some decoration to add to the gothic feel of the library. The bookshelves went up high into the high ceiling and hung a chandelier long since not lit in the center. A large mahogany desk stood in the back of the furthest bookshelf, making this place an ideal study position-- along with a few small tables, lounge chairs and what seemed to be a century old scotch that still seemed full in the corner.

Aquila's flap of his wings made some of the dust waft in the air, indicating how long anyone alive had come here. "Well, we found the library... but now its literally finding a needle in a pile of needles. Unless whoever made this library had a card catalog, where do we start?" Zachary asked V.

"I'll take a bird's-eye view from above. What's the book you're looking for?" Cobalt Eagle cawed.

"Anything pertaining to Vampires. If you find any just toss them down." he instructed.

"Whateva you say, Z-boy." he replied comedically and flew up to search the higher parts of the shelves.

Even though V had seen the house from the outside and knew how relatively large it was in size, the length of the hallway that Zachary's summon led them through was staggering. The avian was faster than the two mages, pausing occasionally for them to catch up, but ultimately gave them no breaks, even taunting them. The young mage said it was because of the bird's competitive personality, but V could feel his mood turning into that of a cranky old man. The hallways continued for a few mure twists and turns, until Aquila stopped near a set of doors, saying that he noticed a lot of books through there. It sounded like a good place to start. And stop to take a brief breather, for V.

The young mage and his summon exchanged some more banter, but at least it seemed that wherever they were about to enter, was safe. For the time being. The tattoed man approached the duo and Zachary pushed the door open. Though V's joints would be quite thankful if he were to sit down for a couple of minutes, but the task at hand was more important.

The avian had indeed found the library. Its interior looked as dusty and unused as the staircase that they went up a little while ago. V couldn't quite speak about the hallways, as those seemed like more of a blur in his memory. The room was lined with numerous ornate bookshelves that even in their state of disrepair looked quite pleasing to the eye. The decor of both the bookshelves and the room itself were something that V imagined himself having in his own home, if he had one. The library also sported a number of tables, making it a suitable place for work, as well as study. Once upon a time, at least.

The boy confirmed V's inner thoughts, as well as asked about the process of finding the book they were tasked to collect. His summon offered his view from above and Zachary agreed to that idea. V's eyes glided over the numerous book spines that were lined in the shelves. A lot of them were barely readable and the titles that he could make out were not familiar. That meant that he could perhaps find something pertaining to demons.

The tattooed man could not feel any specific magical signature, other than the house itself. He suspected that the aura of the magical barrier could be dimming other signatures. On the other hand, though, he could still identify Zachary quite well. Even then, V had this strange feeling that started creeping up on him. He was unsure whether it was the sudden realisation of the unknown that could be lurking around any corner of a bookshelf or that he was in one sense blind, to a certain degree. V's gloved hand lowered the cane it held onto the floor and the man leaned against it. Although there were books lined in the shelves, V was not convinced that the book they were searching for would be among the regular kind. The new breed of vampires had emerged only fairly recently, so unless they were hidden for a long time prior to their unveiling, the tome in question would most likely not be in the most usual of places. Theoretically speaking, at least. "If it is truly a new breed of vampires, the book could very well not be in a typical place." The mage would voice his concerns this time. "Who knows, perhaps it doesn't even hold a title of its own at all." Which would make finding the book that much more difficult in the sea of book spines.

"I would suggest splitting up, though not too far. We are most likely not alone." The mage would lay out his suggestion along with a bit of a warning and head towards the dusty tables with slightly wobbly steps. He wanted to take a better look at the room they found themselves in. However, the tall bookshelf units obstructed most of his view and he couldn't get a proper look at the room. V's face turned into a slight frown, as his head turned from one side to another, thinking about how to approach this great dilemma.

V's suggestion to split up seemed like a worrisome ideas-- but it was only one room to check out, and it wasn't that big. With a hum of consideration, Zachary proceeded to do just that. ON his own, he began to comb the tombs looking for anything pertaining to vampires. He wasn't aware as V was regarding its age of the book, but was focused to find what they needed. So he more or less combed the shelves while Aquila , aka Cobalt Eagle, searched among the higher stacks.

Little did any of them know they were being watched by... something.

"Come on..." Zachary groaned as he moved from row to row, seeing some books without the topic or languages he couldn't comprehend. "It has to be here somewhere..."

    "Heads up!" Aquila cawed.

Before Zachary could react, he felt a thud on his head that made him wince. The book clattered off him and onto the ground. Irritated, Zachary looked up to find Aquila hovering above him. "I said, heads up." he retorted.

"It's kind of a moot point, if it already hits me!" Zachary grumbled as he looked down and found the book Aquila had pulled with his talons.

"You said anything related to vampires, so that's one." he said as he continued to look where he hovered.

Zachary leaned against the old desk and looked at the book-- simply written on the cover was the title "Twilight". Curious, he scrolled up mid-way in the book and looked at the page.

"The brunette haired woman threw herself at the pale man half clothed as she pressed herself against him. 'I don't care if you are a vampire. I love you!" she pleaded.

Edward leaned forward and kissed her feverishly.

Zachary stopped there with a sour look on his face as he tossed the book aside. "Are you kidding me?! We want a tactical dictionary, not some third-rate supernatural erotica!" he shouted back at the eagle.

"Ahahaha... Oh, and how do you know what erotica looks like, hm? " The eagle egged him on.

Zachary shook his head and returned to searching for the book in question, and prayed that V was not judging him by his interactions alone.

A few minutes had passed and neither of them got another clue as Zachary found himself taking a break and leaned against the desk-- him knocking into it that made a hollow 'thud' sound.

Curious to the sound-- Aquila perched himself on a nearby statue head and looked around. His head darted, as many eagles would as he looked to the desk. His special eyes saw through it with ease...

"Hey, any of you humans think to check the inside of the desk there? " Aquila suggested.

Zachary felt baffled for a moment as his gaze fell upon the desk. He looked to V, and allowed him to check out the compartment inside it.

The young mage seemed to hesitate after the tattooed man's suggestion at first, but swiftly got to work, while his summon was off, searching for books itself. With a little sigh, V went to the opposite side where Zachary went. His eyes skimmed over the book spines, finding some interesting sounding titles, but nothing that would directly say or at least elude in some way to being about vampires. Perhaps he should think outside of the box a little bit more? V was already on the lookout for a book with possibly no title. As it slowly turned out, finding a specific book in an unfamiliar library was turning into a miniature nightmare of a task.

The mage didn't manage to get very far in the room, as per his slightly impaired movement, when he heard Aquila speak up a little ways away and being followed by a thud and then complaints from the young mage. V could only imagine that a book found its way to Zachary thanks to his summon, but not in a pleasant course. The tattooed man walked a few more steps, before Zachary yelled something about a 'supernatural erotica', making V turn his head around with a confused expression written on his face, although the young mage couldn't see it. V only shook his head and continue with his search.

V's search seemed to bear no fruit, even after passing countless filled bookshelves. The tattooed man rubbed the inner corners of his eyes in frustration, trying to think of other possible ways a tome could be hidden, but all he could think of were clichés. With a sour look on his face he would turn around and head to his origin point. He could've sworn that he heard some strange, unintelligible whispers, though he reckoned that he most likely heard something from the outside. It only gave him more reason to be wary. His hearing abilities would be tested.

While relying on his cane for support, V made his way back, seeing Zachary taking a break, leaning against one of the desks. It moved under his weight, making a sound. The mage didn't pay it any mind, but the avian, on the other hand, seemed intriguiged, egging the two mages to check out the source. Zachary visually inspected the table, as had V, and moved out of the way. V looked up at the Fairy Tail mage, raising an eyebrow. Of course that he would be the one to have to check the suspicious point. V positioned himself in a way that he could open a hidden compartment of the study table, as he heard a peculiar noise. It was a was a kind of noise he heard not too terribly long ago. A prolonged moan that steadily got louder and louder as the what V assumed was yet an another spirit approaching. "A restless spirit is approaching us. Get your key ready." The man would warn the young mage, as he reached for the table.

The hidden compartment didn't budge at first, making V tug onto it a little bit rougher. He could feel the pain coating his arm in a wave, from his fingertips to his shoulder. The mage slightly winced at the sensation, when he heard an another foreign sound. It wasn't the whispers from the outside, nor the moaning of the spirit. No. It sounded more like... swift shuffling of steps.

V's instincts kicked in and instead of trying to get into the compartment, his hand moved into the air and snapped his fingers. A sharp shard of ice formed behind his head, aiming in the direction where he heard the steps from. Within moments it flew off. The mage's head would turn towards the direction in question, seeing the shard tear into some of the bookshelves, creating incredible mess and ruining many of the books. Though his suspicions were founded. Within the floating mess was a figure, crouched to the side, presumably having dodged V's attack. A smirk appeared on the Slayer's lips. "Incredibly fast, are you?" He would place a rhetorical question into the air, as the answer was quite obvious. The tattooed man would slightly tilt his backwards, towards the Fairy Tail mage, without breaking his gaze from the vampire who entered the scene. "Be a dear and work on the table, would you? I wouldn't mind having a bit of a dance with this vampire." V would suggest the next course of action, hoping that Zachary would sort out the table conundrum and complete the task they were there for.

The desk compartment was locked-- but that urged Zachary to find what was inside. As V tried to mess with it-- something stole his attention. Zachary looked up but didn't hear or sense anything. "You sure something is--" Was all he got before V sent an icicle straight at one of the bookshelves, blasting through it and causing a mess.

Aquila flapped his wings in alarm as he cocked his head at the mess. "Be glad Nyx isn't here or she would bite your head off *Squak*!" he said.

However, they soon saw it-- V had exposed a shadowy figure that was indeed humanoid, and solid unlike any ghost. Its eyes glowed as it glared at them. Zachary gasped for a moment, surprised and shocked... till V acted as cool as ever and advised Zachary to work on opening the compartment. Zachary tugged at it hard, trying to open it with putting a foot on it and tugging.

Meanwhile, the Vampire rose up as he met V's gaze... "Well, well... someone else with ice in their veins." the vampire hissed as it swayed softly and rose to his feet. "But I'm afraid your iscicles will not kill me -- even if right through the heart. " he hissed.

There was a sharp intellegence in the vampire's eyes as his gaze looked to V and the young mage behind him. He didn't consider the bird a threat, but he could tell the boy was a Celestial Wizard, by the view of the keys he clung to.

"I will say this... you have my gratitude for helping me find what I sought," he said, "NOw all i have to do is dispose of it... along with you."

It was then, as if it was a ghost-- it vanished right before V's eyes. The vampire was mist-- then gone. It had become invisible, and was now moving around silent and cunningly. It would take some smart thinking to reveal its position.

While this happened, Zachary tugged hard on the desk door to pull it out, he gave one last pull and it came loose-- the hindge breaking due to the desk's age. Inside was a large book about a foot long. It was bound in old leather and velvet red cover with goldne letters -- along with a holy cross on it, with language that was familiar to what they were looking for.

Zachary took hold of the book happily-- about to declare he found it.

However, Aquila was watching both of them-- and his sharp eyes caught sight of something. Movement. Pressure on the old floor and dust that moved in the air by movement of something unseen. It moved around the room towards Zachary.

"Zachary! On your right-- RUN!" Cobalt squaked and took off from his perch on the statue.

Zachary looked-- till he felt the chill go up his spine and moved. He soon felt the swipe of something near him. Had he not moved, the vampire would of slashed him with his sharp claws.

Now it was clear the Vampire's strategy-- take out the weakest link. Compared to V, he would get what he want by targeting the younger mage. However, Aquila was not about to do nothing as he let out a caw-- and flapped his wings. The beat released a massive blast of wind-- rasor sharp as a blade as it came down and struck the space between Zachary and his enemy. THe wind slashed into the desk-- causing it to be torn to spliters, and nicking a bit from the Vampire.

THe Vampire flickered-- his appearance there for a moment that gave Zachary enough vision to get away.

"What would you do without me, buddy?" Altair squacked.

"FIlthy VULTURE!!" The Vampire roared and extended its claw.

"Hehe... You wan't more Bat-boy? I can do this all....oops" Aquila was continuing to mouth off as he flapped there-- but his body began to glow and appear as starry constellations. "Oh, crap. Looks like my magic flew the coop..." Aquila vanished-- his duration gone.

"Seriously? Now of all time..." Zachary grumbled, and looked to the vampire-- who now looked at Zachary with a hungry look. No doubt it wanted his blood.

" Hmm... As much as I love an icy drink of you," he spoke to V... his gaze turned to Zachary, "I had never had the meal of a Celestial Wizard before. " He licked his lips with hunger.

Angry, Zachary kept the book under his arm and close. With his free hand, he reached into the hem of his shirt and pulled something out-- hanging from his neck. Under his shirt he kept one key hung by a long cord-- a golden key with a fiery design and a beast's face on the handle of it. "Hate to break it to you, but my friend here is the top of the food-chain!"

This would be the moment when V would understand why Zachary was so confident as he extended his hand. NOw at a safe distance, he revealed his trump card. "OPEN, GATE OF THE LION! LEO!! "

With a slash of the key through the air-- bright light shined before him and a powerful flare like sunlight appeared. The Vampire let out a cry as he was repelled by the light briefly.

From the key-hole magic circle and starry mirage,a great beast roared out loud as it appeared in the library. Before Zachary stood a magnificent, white lion-like creature. His body seemed to be a mix of fur and metallic alloy of some nature that seemed celestial in origin. His mane seemed almost like that of the sun in design and starry energy shimmered along his form.

While Leo, or Ajani as he liked to be called, had another form more suitable for indoors-- to martial its full combat powers, it took its true form as a grand lion.

"Well met, Zachary," Leo spoke, his eyes focused on the Vampire. "I take it this isn't a social call."

"Sorry, Ajani. This vampire is dangerous, and your my best bet to fight him," Zachary explained.

A growl escaped the white feline as he eyed the vampire. "I see. A worthy reason, I dare say. Do not worry. I'll make short work of it."

The vampire looked about-- now between an icy wizard, a Demon Slayer-- and one of the 12 holy Zodiac spirits that were infamous among his kind.

The young mage and his summon didn't seem to notice the vampire at first, but after the dust settled a little bit, they did. Thankfully, the Fairy Tail mage listened to V's request and got to work on the cursed table compartment. The vampire made some half-arsed comment and attempted to taunt V as he rose up, his eyes alight with crimson. The supernatural being went on and on, nearly boring V. The bad guys always talked oh so much. All the while the vampire was presenting himself via a lengthy monologue, noise coming from behind the mage's back intensified. The noise eventually culminated into what V could only describe as a break in. The mage hoped that Zachary had the tome they were after in his possession. It was at that time when the vampire melted into a mist before the tattoed man's very own eyes, disappearing from sight.

A frown adorned V's face, as his head whipped to the side, trying to pinpoint the location of the invisible enemy. He may have faded from sight, but if he messed up, V would hear him, knowing exactly where he would be. This proved tougher than he had expected. However, the young mage's summon noticed where the supernatural being was and proceeded to protect its master by using a wind spell to drive off the prowling vampire. Zachary was quick on his feet and managed to not get hit. The vampire was vocally annoyed by the avian's presence and interruption, but soon enough it disappeared, its duration within this plane up.

The tattooed man rotated the rest of his body to face the now revealed vampire. Noticing that the summon that foiled his previous plan was gone, his hunger was reignited. V was going to attempt to hit the creature to distract it so that the two mages could leave with the book they were supposed to acquire, but Zachary had an another idea. It seemed that not only the young mage held some silver keys, he was also a proud owner of a Golden Key. Specifically one that was tied to Leo, one of the Zodiacs. While V had seen numerous variations of summoning magics, he had not witnessed a summoning from a fabled Golden Key, until that moment. Zachary was in possession of the Key that led to Leo.

The summon appeared as one would have expected, a roaring lion. There was small banter between a summon and the master yet again. The mage would quietly sigh, but quickly tense up, as the vampire growled at the sight of an another obstacle between him and the two mages. "I imagine the book is quite important to you, is it not?" The tattooed man would place an another rhetorical question, as he heard a spirit crawling its way through a nearby wall, its moans and wails getting louder and louder.

While the vampire said that they could not do anything to him, much like Zachary, V too, wished to give it a shot. With an another snap of his fingers a shard of ice appeared behind his head and within a brief moment it flew in the direction of V's target. This time, however, the vampire did not bother dodging the spell, taking it full force. The shard of ice shattered, but the enemy was clearly undamaged, sporting a smirk of his own. "I told you you can't do anything to me." He would say and raise his hands upwards.

Then, needles of blood started to pour from the ceiling above them. V was intent on paying them no mind, but one hit him in the shoulder, stinging a little bit, as a small trail of blood appeared from the wound. The Slayer would snap his fingers, gather a bit of his ice energy and let it coat his body on the outside, creating armour that he felt like was more than enough to absorb the damage of the raining needles.

Zachary seemed intent on 'giving it' to the guardian vampire, but V was not convinced that it was the right course of action. They had the book, after all. There was no need to waste their time and energy on this fight. "I reckon that our attacks do seem rather pointless." The vampire would grin at the tattooed man's comment that he evidently took as a compliment. "What do you say that we just take our leave with our haul, Zachary?" V would suggest an idea to the Fairy Tail mage. Not only it did not seem worth the effort, the mage was sure that the supernatural being had a few more tricks up his sleeves.

Zachary witnessed as V was the first to strike, slinging powerful Ice magic at the vampire. At first, Zachary thought it was powerful and effective, but the Vampire somehow snapped right through it, scattering the ice to the floor. It also appeared th at the vampire was skilled in a form of blood magic-- something Zachary wanted to stay far away from . The sheer idea of using blood as a weapon creeped him out, especially how the right use could be extremely fatal.

It was V's warning to retreat that broke his fear. They had the book and according to the reports-- this Vampire couldn't be killed by conventional vampire-slaying methods. There was one thing, however, Zachary felt was constant-- enough to secure their escape.

"None of you are going anywhere!" The vampire roared and lunged towards Zachary to try and steal the book from him.

However, he forgot about the white lion in the room.

    "AJANI!" Zachary cried out.

The lion immediately moved-- intercepting the vampire. A bright light glowed off of the majestic white lion as magic built up. With a powerful roar-- a powerful nova-colored light erupted all around him. It eclipsed the room that V and Zachary were in. IT was a powerful spell called Regulus Nova-- similar in Fairy Law to directly harm enemies and leave allies untouched.

As for the vampire, the blast was magically created sunlight. The sheer blast-- while no doubt couldn't truly destroy the vampire, it would no doubt hurt him.

And the bet was on the money as the Vampire repelled away, bracing himself and burns forming along his pale features. "GRRRAAAA!! Noooo-- damn you!! The SUN IT BURNS... GAAAHH!!"

It was then that Leo's aura lessened, allowing the others to see. Smoke wafted off the vampire, but he was still there. His wounds were slowly healing, but his eyes were sealed shut.

"NOW is our time to leave," Leo insisted . Turning to Zachary, the lion gestured for him to jump on his back-- so he could run with them. If V wished, the offer to ride Leo was open to him and should be. Leo was large enough to allow at most 2 people to ride his back. Holding on tight to Leo and the book-- Leo took off running down the hall. "Hold on tight!!" he roared, leaving the Vampire behind in his blind state.

However, Leo skipped past the stairs and ran forward. Before Zachary could even correct the beast, he saw the upcoming window large enough for Leo-- and he ran for it. "Ajani-- no... no!"

"I said hold on!!" he roared-- and charged right through the window.

Zachary let out a scream of fright as they went flying out the second story window into the night air and flew over the fence of the estate.

Leo would land on the outside-- leaving skid marks in the dirt as he landed, a soft growl escaping him as the cool air greeted them. Leo-- or Ajani as Zachary called him, shook his mane, losing the tight feeling of tension that was left in the battle they escaped from.

"Leo... next time when you wanna jump out a window, could you give me some warning, please...?" Zachary groaned and rolled off Leo's back onto the ground. All the while , he still had the book clenched under his arm and held on to it as if it was Leo's key itself.

They were now safe and the book in their possession. The question was-- how was V and Zachary going to cooperate from this point on now.
