"OK, I'll bring them down." Victoria replied to Haraka's request. She was glad to do so because she had a feeling that they were actively shielding the dude with the pumpkin head from attack. If the crows were not removed, the two mages could throw the strongest spells they had at the man until the crops grew back but would not hurt him because the crows would just form up and block the spells. It was a good thing that the Sabertooth mage had a Light Machine Gun as a weapon. It was the best non-explosive weapon she could use against them because a Heat-Seeker rocket could clear the birds away with ease, but the flame from the explosion would result in the field catching fire, the very situation she was trying to avoid.

Its power and rate of fire would make for quick crow removal, but she would would have to watch for any retaliation from the man because he would quickly catch on to their plan and do his best to keep from losing his avian shield. Victoria would deal with that when it came. Besides, she had the Caduceus Shield to protect herself. It could take a couple of good hits before breaking, but the shield was only a shield. It could not completely protect her from the consequences of half-baked plans or recklessness.

Victoria raised the weapon to her shoulder, took careful aim, and opened fire on the pumpkin-headed dude. She fired a full-auto burst just to see how the crows would react to their master being shot at. As she thought they formed up into a flying shield and took the bullets for their master. Five of them fell to the ground and landed on their backs, kicking the sky with their feet as they died. However, there were still a lot of crows to go before the shield was completely down.

As predicted the pumpkin-headed dude caught onto their strategy and prepared to retaliate. Victoria kept firing at him and the crows dutifully circled to catch the bullets before they could hit their target. He raised a glowing red hand and glared at her with palpable malice, then fired a flaming pumpkin projectile directly at her. Victoria lowered her weapon and raised her left hand, then cast Caduceus Shield to block the pumpkin. It exploded on contact and raised a giant fireball that soon dissipated, but not before impressing the mage with the intense heat that it could give off.

Victoria dropped the shield and raised the Light Machine Gun, then aimed at the man and fired on full-auto again, not bothering with Five-Round Bursts because in this case precision was not necessary. All it took was firing in his general direction for the birds to instinctively defend their master. Victoria planned on exploiting that behavior so that Haraka could get a window of opportunity to hammer the enemy with their spells. A prolonged burst resulted in sixteen more crows leaving the mortal coil. It also resulted in the man preparing another counterattack.

His hand glowed red and he formed a glowing orange tennis ball-sized projectile in the palm of his hand, then he drew his arm back and thrust his hand forward. The projectile was launched towards her and Victoria raised the Caduceus Shield. She watched in surprise and horror as the projectile burst three-fourths of the way to her and lashed the ground with fire. The fire had gotten around her shield and licked at her feet and legs, forcing her to drop the shield and scramble to safety. The man laughed at her as the crows circled around him and cawed.

The flames went out quickly, but Victoria had been lightly burned by the fire. Her bare legs were in mild pain, so she was still in the fight. She needed to knock down more of those birds so that Haraka could give the pumpkin-headed dude a beatdown. She raised her weapon and fired one last prolonged burst, knocking down fourteen more birds. She needed to treat her legs before resuming the attack.

"I'm gonna need a little time before I try again. Do you think you can hit him?" Victoria asked Haraka. Her legs burned like someone was jabbing them with red-hot pokers. She quickly formed a Field Surgery spell in her hand and cast it on her legs, healing them and curing the burn.

    Haraka Omaras

Everything seemed to be going the way Omaras had expected that it would. The cursed being chasing the one with the well aimed gun was as plain as the moon in the sky. His thin tall body quickly swerved. It was a quick but very welcome change from being hunted to the quiet hunter. By this time his ice kopesh had melted again, but it wasn't the West Fiore Trading Company guild members only form of attack. The young looking man didn't mind playing the waiting game again, watching Victoria take down the bird minions bit by bit. The curse maker really had reacted far more harshly to the birds being killed. The birds were not as replaceable as cursed pumpkins, if at all. That wasn't the aggravation that had been aimed at Haraka moments ago, but actual anger. But then things started to veer from the plan. A burning counter attack occurred like a wave of biting heat. Of course another attack was expected to eventually come, but for some reason this still felt surprising. Maybe it was the strength of it? Its fire spells were intense in their strength. No, the power wasn't the shock, it had already showed the same spell earlier. Maybe it was the rage on the creatures face, or that it spoke vulgarly towards Victoria. The creature was humanoid, some form of intelligence should have been expected, so why did it take the mixed blood off guard? The exact words spoken had been missed by the hybrid, but it certainly hadn't been wishes of good health. Now seemed to be a chance he had to take. Be it there was or wasn't a window, his job partner needed a chance to recover from the terrible tornado. A long tail curled as feet stilled briefly before rushing in. "I'll try!"

There was no hesitation in action, though fear certainly echoed throughout his mind. This plan wasn't perfect, relying too heavily on the skills and accuracy of both parties who had taken the job, as well as an amount of predictability on the enemies part. The chance of mistakes always felt high to the doctor, as almost every spell he used was something that took a lot of focus. There was no 'natural talent'. His mental, emotional, and spiritual health were all things that had held their abilities back before. He had spent much time in his life researching and training in attempts to be capable of being able to use some amount of magic. Before then? The only other time he had shown any signs of promise was at childhood. It was said that the spell from his country kept children from being capable of using any form of magic until puberty, but a desperate youth had done so at nine years old as part of a desperate, stupid and dangerous plan. A plan that had worked, but also made a preexisting condition even worse. Wings opened slightly, using them to help the young looking man gain better momentum in a jump. A cold had gathered around the end of their tail before it formed ice crystals. A leap that had started to become a somersault with a strong tail swing at the halfway point. It hit the pumpkin headed humanoid, the remaining birds darting with a sharp anger over the cold attack spell. The swift blade like strikes from the avians did not cause fear, nor hesitation. Pain and wounds were the least shocking of consequences concerning any of these actions. The youthful looking but well aged person tried to aim himself to land on his hands.

His mind was swallowed in focusing on both physical actions and spells being cast. Blue lightening started charging around his tail right after the ice attack had finished, most of the electrical magic focused around the end area of the limb. Omaras was just tired of this beast. All the attacks, the fire, the curse and the effects it's had on the people and the area. Tired of getting attacked, of his job partner getting attacked, of all this mess. It was a tiredness that outweighed the ice blue skinned persons firm dislike of pain, making hitting the opponent more vital than running or dodging. Palms touched the soil, talons digging in as their long back bent. There was a burning sensation on his back that was far too familiar. It was likely the one body part that had been touched by blade like body parts the most. The West Fiore Trading company members tail flung itself at it's target, blue lightening bouncing from the tail and onto the smacked target. Were these clothes ruined by bird attacks? That would be discovered at a later point. Ruined clothes can be replaced, weary souls replenished. One of his hands started gathering ice as he moved back to an upright position. It was easier for the half dragon to notice the many tears in his clothes created by the enraged birds now. For some reason that just bothered the man even more. Perhaps he just felt so tired of attacks and pain that just about anything added to the mess just gave more of a reason to be upset. He wasn't the type that was thrilled by danger. The mixed blood was someone soothed by hospital work and making tea sets. His other hand worked on the push that aided them in rolling off their hands.

It felt nice to have feet back on the ground. He would love to have said the next attack hit, but one of the loyal birds took it instead. A punch of ice hit one of the birds, but the ice and the bird still sprinkled at the bosses face. While it didn't do any damage, it probably pissed them off a lot.
"I'm too tired for your shit!"

The Blood of death kept me breathing. From that fluid birthed a new rhythm.

Pumpkin Hunt - Page 2 Empty Re: Pumpkin Hunt

Post by Victoria Sheridan 21st May 2019, 1:56 pm

Victoria stood back and let Haraka do his thing. The West Fiore Trading Company mage endured the attacks of tried to land an ice attack on the man, but a bird took the hit instead and Haraka's attack was wasted. Victoria could practically feel the frustration emanating off of her companion as he said what he did. She was right there with him. Those birds had to go before they could stop the pumpkin-headed man for good.

Victoria was reluctant to employ explosives because of fear of igniting the field with the heat from an explosion, but now might be the best time to use them. A rocket from the Rocket Launcher would be more than enough to fry the protective birds, but the issue of collateral damage came up again. She could try tear gas, but she was not sure if birds were affected by tear gas and it might not work fast enough to make a difference. Something had to be done because her arsenal of bullet-based weaponry that was sufficient for any other threat was not doing enough to clear away the birds. Then she slowed down to think the matter through a little more and came upon a solution.

    A Bunker Buster.

A Bunker Buster rocket from her Rocket Launcher might do the trick without endangering the crops too much. From what she recalled, armor-piercing anti-vehicle rounds tended to exchange explosive content for the ability to punch through armor before exploding. That meant the blast would not be as big as the one generated by a normal rocket. However, that in turn brought up its own set of problems.

Anti-armor fuses needed a minimum amount of armor to punch through before they went off. There was a big flock of birds surrounding the man, but it might not be thick enough to set off the fuse. Still, the sheer velocity of the Bunker Buster would punch through the crows and definitely hurt the man because it was a projectile fired at high speed. It was worth a shot, so to speak.

Victoria dispelled her Light Machine Gun and brought out her Rocket Launcher. She took aim at the man and his swarm of feathered friends and was about to fire a Bunker Buster when he saw what was coming and opted to beat her to the draw. He raised his hand and cast another one of his fire spells at her. Victoria slung the launcher around her shoulder and raised the Caduceus Shield to avoid getting burned.

The projectile exploded against the shield and generated smaller trails of flame that nearly singed her feet. Victoria quickly stomped out the fires before they could spread to the crops and readied her counterattack. She took a knee, aimed, and fired a Bunker Buster, banking on the velocity of the projectile to at least hurt the pumpkin-headed man.

The anti-armor rocket raced towards the target and the birds instinctively surrounded him to shield their master from the attack. As predicted the birds were not thick enough to set off the fuse, but the rocket turned some of the birds into red mist and knocked the man quite a distance back, far enough away that the crops would be safe if the rocket went off. That was unexpected but welcome because now she had finally done something to the enemy who was protected up until that point.

"He's away from the birds! Get him, Haraka!" Victoria called out. There was a short window of opportunity to hammer the enemy before his birds came to the rescue and made him hard to hit. Hopefully Haraka would take it and close in with the man to end this fight before it went on any longer.

It was amazing to see how many birds could burn away in such a short time. There was no time to stare at the damage his job partner had done. Everything could be admired later, time could be taken to do things. Legs moved forward as the mixed blood dashed forward. The west Fiore trading company member would be damned if he let the chance Victoria go to waste. There was a tiredness and frustration that had started to build through this situation. Too much heat and fire, things that spit fire, Haraka wasn't built to handle heat! The fire tornadoes was an amount of heat that the young looking man would be more than happy to never experience again if it could be helped. Silent speedy steps slipped to a tail pressing against the ground. One arm charging with lightening, the other gathering ice. The half ice dragon only had to take one swift step to take after the boost from his tail. It was at that time that both spells smashed upon the curse of a pumpkin person. It wasn't normal for him to be able to do two spells at once, but it was so much easier to attack when there was enough frustration to stop the restrictions that his kindness and hesitations normally left him with.

He didn't even care enough to take a breath of a break, for the next bit of air sucked in was used to charge yet another spell. How does one react to too much fire? Possibly with copious amounts of cold. The mixed blood released sharp chunks of white ice and massive amount of snow After a quick and deep inhale. Snow breath wasn't the most powerful spell, but it was the one that finished things off. The cursed being died in a large pile of snow. Omaras didn't feel any less fed up with anything heat or fire related. The job had been exhausting, everything felt painful at that point. It would be nice to go somewhere cold and roll all over piles of snow. This was a strange thought that hadn't crossed the persons mind in a long time, but it also wasn't every day that a person was struck by fire tornadoes. His body moved as if it were all coated in mud, a sign of weariness and exhaustion. Their deep sapphire irises moved to look at Victoria, a slumped look in his eyes. It was a tired feeling that was visible in every bit of his person. There was one more thing he wanted to do before he decided to fix the damage to the crops all the fighting had caused.

The ice blue skinned person hated the idea of running right now, but doing that would be the quickest way to get close enough to talk. It was an exhausting thought, but one acted on regardless. Resting was for when you're at home and in bed, not before. There was a bit of wincing by the time he had finished running, stopping next to the powerful teammate.
"You were amazing." The young man started, pausing to try to catch his breath. "I would love to get to know you better, as a friend. It would be nice if you visited at some point after we've both had a nice rest from this exhausting job. I'm a boring old man though, so the visit wouldn't involve anything more thrilling than a good chat and a home made meal served by myself." He didn't know if she would actually ever come, it felt a bit unlikely. Still, it sounded nice to have a friend over. To cook for that person and listen to that person, that sounded so amazing.

The Blood of death kept me breathing. From that fluid birthed a new rhythm.
