Markus found himself pacing back and forth on the second floor landing of Fairy Tail, the books passing him as he flipped on his heel and turned back the other direction. The chaos mage found himself thinking towards the best way to move forward. He had been downstairs in the Fairy Tail Basement and found a very… complex job. Everything about the job cried out to Markus, forcing him to accept it.

The chaos mage hated the idea of such a job, hated that he had to ask for permission, and hated that he could not force himself to enter her office and ask what he needed… Taking a breath he once more pulled out the paper he had taken from the downstairs board. His eyes, flashing with chaotic energy and cloaked in anger crossed across the page, once more reading the job.

Help Needed! Escape from Eldridge Estate.
    Rank : S
Requirements : Hello Wizard, I need your help! I am a mage from Bellem and have no where else to go… My sister has been sold into ‘service’, a legal form of slavery within Bellam sanctioned by the Magi. I need your help to get her from the estate that had purchased her. She was unfortunately born without any magical capabilities, which is what makes her nothing more to property. This is unacceptable, however I do not have the power, nor the standing, to free her.
The Eldridge Estate is a group of powerful magic users who have a high standing within the society. The entire family is well respected, however I have intel that they will be holding an event soon, which will lead to the perfect chance to get in and free my sister. The best way would be to get in and get out without notice, however as long as you free her, and get her out of the country, I do not care what the casualties are.
I sent this message though any channels I know which can get this to the… more accepting guilds within Fiore. The Magic Council has forbid legal action against Bellam, and as such this job is not sanctioned in any way.

Do what you must to free my sister, you will be rewarded greatly.

The mage was not surprised that ‘they’ were at it again. Pacing back and forth he stopped once more, just feet from her office. Markus knew, he was not sanctioned to go on this job. It was ranked above him, and as such he needed permission, and another guild member, neither of which the chaos mage accepted… He HAD to get her to understand… but… how could he tell her about his family.

Once more Markus took off in his pacing, once more debating what he will say, once more glancing at her door as he passed. He knew she was still here, he had seen the light in her window as he came into the guild hall. Until about ten minutes ago, the chaos mage however had thought that they would be to their own devises.

Markus had not talked to her much sense the ball, things were… tense. He had seen her on the surprise job with Johann, when they met by surprise  on the shadow islands,  however that was entirely professional.

Taking a breath, Markus once more stopped in front of her door, and knocked twice in rapid succession before his inpatients got the better of him and he walked into her office, forcing her door open.

    “Nessa, we need to talk.”

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 16th December 2018, 3:00 pm

Nessa stared down hard at the pages in front of her, her violet eyes darted from left to right, quickly scanning the contents of the page for about the thirtieth time. It seemed that she was done, finally done with the task she had been commisioned to do. Now that it was over and done with it felt a little less embarrassing. It was just a story after all, and she had signed it with an alias, so it wasn't like anyone wouldn't ever know it was her. Besides the likelihood that Markus and Aven would ever stumble across this little fanfiction was very small. It was fine; she would just have to submit this to the client, once she did that then it would be gone and forgotten about for good. Although despite being highly embarrassed by the task, she did put a lot of work it to it, a small part her was tempted to make a copy to keep. But the idea of any of her guildmates ever finding out about it just made that too much of a risk. The humiliation would be irreversible. Fortunately, the only person who she was aware that knew about the task was Sorano, maybe one or two of the aces although that hadn't been confirmed. This was a secret she did not want getting out.

The door suddenly burst open, causing Nessa to jump suddenly in her seat. Papers up into the air. As she caught glanced of Markus, the last person she had expected to walk into her office, she quickly went into panic mode. She suddenly stood up and snatched them out of the air; her cheeks filled with a deep red blush as she attempted to shuffle the papers together and out of sight. She shoved them into her top drawer, quickly locked it shut before looking up at her visitor who couldn't have been more ironic if she tried. "O-oh hi, Markus, what um.. what would you care to discuss?" She said in an awkwardly polite tone, a hand resting purposely over the drawer. She quickly tried to compose herself, although anyone could clearly see that she was flustered. It hadn't been that long since she last saw him, it was strange getting used to having him back.

They had initially been reunited at the Winter's Ball hosted by the West Fiore Trading Company. A meeting that had been somewhat bittersweet, it would be a lie to say she wasn't happy to see him again. But she had immediately gone about setting rules for them. Because based on their past experiences, she needed to find a way to set up a means of resisting the temptation to give into him again. Not that it was likely to be tempted again but that particular time had involved a lot of alcohol and a little recklessness. But even so by saying it out loud felt necessary, just a little. However, things hadn't been so bad upon their last meeting when she and Johann from the West Fiore Trading Company had gone to Shadow Island to deal with several robotic monsters that had been attempted to infest the lands. Nessa and Markus had stumbled across each other while on the job at hand. Which had gone surprisingly well, they had both managed to contribute to the destruction of the beasts without any complications. So maybe, just maybe they could move on in their friendships, without any complications.

Markus cocked his head and raised an inquisitive eyebrow as he burst into her office. He was not surprised she had been caught off guard, in his rush to get this conversation over with he certainly forgot, or ignored, quite a few bits of curtsy including waiting for her to actually invite him in. Even with that being the case, the site of her response was quite… suspicious. She had been so surprised that she sent papers everywhere, and had been in such a hurry to hide them from the mage that she was now standing, with a slight rose to her cheeks. He noticed her hand still rested on the drawer she just locked.

Markus however had other things to worry about, surely it was just guild stuff and had nothing to do with him. After all, she was an Ace now. Still, Markus could not forget the flustered expression on her face, and the tone in her voice when she talked. She was speaking almost too polite, as if to a representative, or unknown variable, and not as a friend. Taking a deep breath the black clad mage decided it could wait.

Before anything he turned behind him and closed the door, making sure to glance if anyone near by might be able to over hear. Then, once that task was done he turned to the starlight maiden and schooled his face into his typical neutral expression.

“I have a… request of you, as one of the guilds Aces.” Markus started softly, his voice was calm, and controlled yet anyone who knew him would know there was something different in his tone, almost reverent, careful. Polite. “There is this Job… a job from the basement. I need permission to attempt it.” Markus said handing over the paper. It would be slightly torn and crinkled from the mages constant shuffling and reading.

Immediately after handing over the paper Markus would walk to the closest window and look outside, keeping his face turned away from his ace. Keeping the single tear that had threatened to fall hidden. His hands would be at his sides, and his body would be almost motionless as he waited for her to read. “The job has a certain… meaning to me. If you will allow it, I could leave on the hour. I should be back relatively soon, of course accounting for travel times.” Markus once more was talking in a very apathetic voice, as if he could care less of the result, yet the charade would not be complete, and without his signature grin and attitude would fall short.

Markus was lost in thought, his mind remembering back to his time within the very estate spoken about in the job. Markus William Eldrdige, the name he was given, the name the mage despised. He had not thought of his family in years, and had never once signed it on documents. He wondered even if the Aces knew of his name, he was certain he had introduced himself as much when Nessa met in the forest, but he was only ever known as Markus. He was certain no one would connect the dark haired vagabond and homeless mage with the proud and esteemed Eldridge Family.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 18th December 2018, 4:43 pm

Nessa quickly set about trying to compose herself a little better. Her behaviour, she knew full well, was suspicious. As he proceeded to explain his reasons for bursting into her office suddenly, her blush would slowly begin to fade, and she would offer his request her complete attention. It seemed he was coming to her because she was an Ace, and that there weren't any alternate reasons behind it. It was strange to be sitting in this position with Markus on the other side of the table, asking for her for permission to do something. It was almost a bit of a role reversal, the last time they had been on the job together if anything he had been in charge. But now that she was in a higher position than him, she would have to take charge. She just hoped that he wouldn't offer too much resistance.

She skimmed over the contents of the piece of paper that he handed her, her violet eyes scanning over the job details. It seemed to be a job about retrieving a girl that had been sold into slavery. A name popped up to her; she glanced at him for a moment before looking back down at it. Eldridge. She was pretty sure that was the name he had given her when they met, although that had been an awfully long time ago. Perhaps she remembered it wrong. Although she had admittedly thought about Markus a fair bit, he was pretty hard to forget. She continued to scan the contents, talk about facing a group of dangerous mages. She sat back, thumbing the page for a moment. She sighed, she was torn, she knew Markus well enough to understand how capable of a mage he was, but there were still rules. Rules that as an Ace, she had no choice but to implement.

"Markus, I understand this is important, but your rank doesn't qualify you to do this job alone." She explained. At the end of the day, if this job were tough enough to be ranked S, sending him alone would be a massive risk to him and the reputation of the guild. She was trying to keep her guard up a little around Markus, because despite what she was trying to do. Seeing him around now, still caught her off guard. But that didn't mean she didn't value his safety as a guildmate. She pondered the implications for a moment, "Unless..." A thought came to mind, although she wasn't sure if it was a wise thought. If an individual of the same rank or higher were to accompany him, she could approve it. But this meant doing a job with him alone. She looked up at him once more, looking at his features. He seemed too serious, so genuinely determined to do this job. She felt herself give in, leaning over, she scribbled a note on the job. Including both the names of the guildmates partaking in it. Before reaching over her desk for an approval stamp and imprinted it on the page. She then pushed back her seat and walked around the table. "Come on, we leave in an hour right? Best get our stuff together if we want to get to Bellum before nightfall." She said to him, striding past him towards her office door.

Markus still looked outside as he waited for her decision. He could see a good portion of Magnolia from the window, the rooftops, and walking citizens, the forest in the distance with its quilted trees and hidden secrets. With a sign the chaos mage took a breath and tightened his shoulders as she finally spoke. Her voice was still polite, but he could tell she was once more in control, and her actions were no longer hastened.

Markus immediately decided that her decision was not going to keep him from going. This was something he had to do, something he had to face with or without the guilds backing. He knew he was being selfish, using a job as excuse to finally deal with his past, but he could not help it. He learned much during his time in the void, and the black clad mage was done running. Steeling his face, and forcing the emotions back the mage turned on his heels to face his Ace.

Just as she took a pause, and said a single word, and paused in contemplation. Markus bit his tongue and held his comment. He was prepared to go on his own, job or no job. His eyes met hers as she looked at him. His eyes would be calm, calculating, but resolute, determined. The tear was gone, the chaos mage having had enough time to compose himself. He waited and watched as she suddenly scribbled onto the job, too far away to see what she wrote he gave a sign of relief as she stamped the note, approving the job. He was about to leave, and give thanks when he heard her speak once more, as she stood up from her desk.

The black clad mage was speechless, he was pretty resolute that he was going and he was originally determined to have gotten her permission. However, Markus had never once expected that she might be joining him. Markus had been determined to see this done on his own… Taking a breath, the black clad mage just watched her pass him, and head towards the door. He could not get himself to speak, he was unsure how to proceed.

Markus had not actually planned to even go traditional travel to Bellam, he could have voidwalked if he was alone, but he was not sure if he was willing to show Nessa that place… It was equivalent of taking her too his bedroom in his mind, a concept which was surprisingly worrying…

Taking a step forward, Markus looked the other mage in the eye before following her out the door. Quietly, softly, almost a whisper, and just loud enough for her to hear the mage said two words. "Thank You..." Words which echoed of gratitude and acceptance, yet worry and trepidation. All emotions which were foreign to the chaotic mage.

Leaving the office, Markus was silent as he let Nessa take the lead. He wanted nothing to do with having a partner, not on this particular mission, and no matter how much he fancied the person. The chaos mage knew, if they would run into the wrong person, his secret would be made.. perhaps this would all go smoothly and Markus could do what he needed without answering questions.

Markus knew the mages were supposed to meet with the Magi who had given them the job, and learn of this ‘event’ that they were to use as cover. Markus glanced at the female he was traveling with. He knew, if he was alone hiding in darkness would have been easy. With her with him, this job was going to turn… interesting. Taking a deep breath he spoke up. Trying to alleviate some of the tension he was feeling.

“So, how is guild work going…?”
It was a poor excuse for small talk, but the mage could do no better.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 21st December 2018, 5:56 am

Nessa caught him looking at her, his dark eyes catching her gaze, pausing in her step slightly as he thanked her sincerely. It was mildly surprising, but still, she offered him a genuine grin. "Don't mention it, I'm your Ace now, so if I can help in any way I'm glad to, plus, we're friends so it's no trouble." She said casually, it was the truth after all. Since becoming an Ace, it was her responsibility to make sure to help her guildmates in any way she could. They were essentially family after all, and if this meant that much to Markus, then it meant that much to her too. She didn't feel like creating a barrier between her and Markus meant she had to push him away. She really did want him in her life, as her friend. Surely if she she played her cards right, she could make it work?

She led him after of her office, heading over the wisp at the front desk. "But first, I'll need to collect some things from home, I have an emergency travel kit prepared, so it won't take long. Fortunately, I only live a fifteen walk from the guild, five minutes if I fly. Did you want to come with?  Or shall we meet back here?" She ask in a tone of uncertainty, she didn't exactly mind him coming to her house. He could just wait in the hallway, while she gathered her stuff and wrote a note for her family. Plus she was pretty sure her Dad was at work. Edward would be at school, and Antoinette was still away on that long job of hers. So the likelihood of an awkward encounter was slim. The only people they were likely to run into was Sebastian and Arielle. If they hadn't headed off on a little journey together, the duo certainly had become a little team of sorts. It was cute, and it helped Nessa feel less guilty about not taking them on jobs with her as much as she felt she should.  She turned her gaze the Will 'o' wisp. "Can you leave a memo for Sorano and the other Aces that I'll be gone for a while. I'm escorting Markus on an S Rank, will check in once I'm back." She told the Wisp, it seemed to blink at her once, which she knew was a confirmation of her request. She turned back to Markus,

"Also how did you want to get to Bellum? We could go by carriage, or we could fly. Alternatively, I could open a portal through Valhalla, and we could travel that way. I've actually been to Bellum before so I can reopen a portal there from Valhalla. Unless you can think of any other ways to get there quickly?" She asked, tilting her head. Wondering if she was offering up to much, first a visit to her home, then a brief walk through Valhalla, she wasn't even sure how much Markus knew about her new magic.

She heard his question and shrugged, "It's good, a little overwhelming at time. I wasn't expecting the position to be honest, but I'm glad for it nonetheless. It's nice to feel I can contribute a little more to the guild these days. Even if it's mainly paperwork and balancing figures." She told him. She knew he was trying to make it a little less tense between them, and it was still a little weird being around each other again. It wasn't like she would forget what had happened between them anytime soon, but if they could somehow get back to normal. Maybe they would be okay.

Markus cocked his head as she spoke. At least they were on friendly terms, even if he was uncertain about her involvement. Giving her a nod he followed her out of the office contemplating the best way to continue forward with this job. There was much he wanted to do, and even more he wished to say. Stopping as she spoke again, the chaos mage contemplated.

Here he was, worried about her reactions, and his family and she just invites him over to her abode. Was she being polite? Did she really trust him that much. She seemed uncertain, perhaps worried. Taking a deep breath Markus nodded. “Lead the way, its easier than meeting up afterwards.” Markus was as always remaining emotionless and calm. Logically it made more sense not having to meet up later. The time they saved while small was needed.

Markus then thought to what he needed… if he was to separate from her he could return to chaos long enough to change into his combat gear. However, if he came to trust her, and assuming Aporia were to… stay hidden, then it might just work as a good way to get them to Bellam without issue. Chaos he knew would not care, Aporia probably would ignore them, and the chaos mage hardly ever saw the other progenies.

He watched as she informed the wisp of their plan, it made sense that an Ace would leave notice. For a brief second he thought back to when he left the first time. Perhaps he should have left notice for Nessa, instead of just informing Sorano of his leaving. Taking a deep breath he once more let the thought flow free, brushing off of his mind, taking a breath he returned to the issue at hand.

He had made his decision, if she was willing, after reaching their house and she gets ready Markus would do the same, allowing them both to enter Chaos so that he could change. Besides, the entrance into Chaos was fast, simple, and meant they did not have to travel. As he was about to speak up, the chaos mage paused listening to her once more.

Valhalla, that was certainly an interesting concept. Markus briefly thought back to the explanation Aporia gave him of the various realms, and how the void interconnected with them. He knew she never mentioned Valhalla by name, so the realm was unknown to the chaos mage. Taking a breath, he thought about it and decided he would leave the choice up to Nessa. As the walked he spoke up.

“Valhalla? Does that have anything to do with the winged females during the parade and last job?” Markus was generally curious, it was certainly an interesting magic, and seemed to suit her well. Her method of transportation seemed very similar to his own. Once more, he spoke up after hearing her speak about Valhalla. “Well… I actually could do with getting a few things myself. There is this… place I can go to.” Markus was sitting here trying to decide how to open up about it. “Its kinda connected to where I was trapped.” The words came out in a rush, and quite silent. “Anyways, it sounds a lot like Valhalla, I can open a portal there and get ready then it will be quite easy to get to Bellam from there. So, I guess it is up to you? Whichever you prefer.” Markus finished speaking, forgetting entirely that he never named the place.

As they walked he listened to her speak of the new position. “Paperwork? Was that what you were working on when I walked in… Seems like a stressful job.” Markus briefly wondered how far they were from her place.

Markus seemed unfazed by her invite to her house, that was good right. Because if that might truly mean nothing, then it wouldn't be a big deal for either of them. This was strictly for work-related purposes, right? She would push open the door to the guild and begin to lead the way to her home. It was a little odd; they hadn't really had a chance to talk since they had first reunited, having been too busy with jobs and the sort. Then there was that strange encounter with Markus and Mars, or rather Aporia and Mars. Nessa hadn't really gotten an explanation about that, then again it's not like Markus owed her one. But still, it had left her very confused. Was Markus like Johann in that sense, did he have something living inside of him like Mars? Or was she just jumping to a conclusion? She didn't want to speculate too much, she only hoped that eventually, he would feel comfortable enough to tell her.

Nessa's looked at Markus in surprise as he mentioned Valhalla, before realising that he wouldn't know about her new magical abilities. He had left just before she had saved Tiphanae and formed her connection to the Valkyries. "Oh, well after you left, I sort of made a contract with a group of Valkyries, and can summon them to aid me in battle. They're like companions of sorts." She explained, "It also links me to the realm of Valhalla," She added, at some point, she hoped to introduce Markus to them properly. Although, there were two Valkyries she was uncertain about, their senseless attempts to push Nessa towards their respective bets.

Nessa tilted her head curiously as Markus spoke of taking her to the place he was trapped in for so long. The place where he had been caught for so long that had made such a difference in their timelines. For Nessa had only missed Markus's presence for four months, whereas for Markus it had been a long four years. She had been surprised he hadn't forgotten about her, but instead, he had whispered those three words that still hovered in the back of her mind. I missed you... She glanced away for a moment, not watching to catch his eye as she thought about it.

"That sounds okay, as long as we can pass through safely and quickly."

She replied softly; she didn't know what the expect from a word that was capable of trapping him for so long. But she was not about to force him to come to Valhalla instead. If he felt comfortable enough to take her then, then she would surely be fine. She had to trust his decision, plus it made sense not to delay matters too much. She heard his remark, and the blushed once more. She wondered if he had seen something he wasn't supposed to have. She laughed nervously, "Yeah, just some paperwork Sorano asked me to complete, it's not so bad I guess," She told him, trying to play it off casually.

They soon arrived at her home; it was a humble building — wooden walls, flower beds outside the front. If you looked, you could see that it had initially been quite a small home that had recently had extensions added onto it. She reached into her satchel and unliked the front door. "You can wait in the living room if you want." She told him as she leads him into the main hallway. The layout of the home was cosy in nature; shelves adorned with books, ornaments and trinkets. It had a nice feminine touch thanks to her Aunties contributions. She pointed to the living, before heading up the stairs to collect her things.

Markus listened with vested interest as she spoke about Valhalla, he had seen her Valkyries only on spare occasions, once at the festival and he had seen a couple of them when on the job. He would be lying if he was not interested in meeting them and speaking with other realm creatures. Ever since learning just what he was, sitting in the Court of Chaos, and meeting Aporia as well as other Void Dwellers and Realm Beings he had found that he had a vested interest and great love of the Other Worlds. They truly seemed, alien, unique, a place the chaos mage finally felt home. As a child everything always felt off to Markus, from the first day of his life his hand had been unfair, yet he had molded himself to who he was today. Sure, he was not a good man by any means but he was okay with that, content with who he is, with who the well showed him… As long as he does not loose control.

Markus closed his eyes and forced the image out of his mind, forced Soranos words from his thoughts… “I would certainly enjoy visiting one day, perhaps on our way back…” The comment was simply stated, no added question or request. He would never push her to do such a thing. When she spoke again he realized just what he had invited her to do. Going through the void was actually, very, very dangerous. Not only could it mess with time, but the creatures that lived within could kill easily. For Markus, there was only one truly safe path and that is to warp into the castle, into his domain. The chaos mage was certainly apprehensive about such a thing… Looking at the other mage Markus thought to himself, and gave a slight nod, much in the same way Aporia had done when controlling his own body. He trusted her with his secret.

As they walked, he watched with vested interest as she blushed to his comment. Speaking nervously, she informed him that it was work given to her from Sorano. The way she talked was as if it did not affect her, as if it was some sort of casual ace duties. However, her dementor, facial cues, and bearing told an entirely different story. For a brief second Markus was going to speak up, ask for more, clarification. However, he then decided against it. It was not his place. It is not like they were that close after all, recently just started speaking again after all.

Markus was enjoying the walk, Magnolia had not changed much. It was certainly surprising for the mage. He was still very much surprised to have learned how vast the times were between himself and Nessa. “I still can not get used to the fact that only four months have gone.” The chaos mage gave Nessa a sideways looked through the corner of his eyes. “I had expected so much to have changed, and in fact everything is different. But… not in the same way.” Markus looked forward as they arrived at her home. It was nice and looked cozy. Nothing like the Estate Markus was born in. The very abode their job was taking them to. The Eldridge Estate was all stone, menacing, powerful, befitting of the ‘Magi’ which lived within. This home was nice, wooden, with a pretty garden. Markus signed as she opened the door an he walked in.

Breathing in he could smell various scents, parchment, books, Nessa, the workings of a home, and the food in storage. Markus still forgot some days just how good his slayer senses were. Even now he could spell Nessa next to him, not all that different from that night. Releasing his breath he took a step forward into her abode, and farther from her. Following her through the main hallway he liked the layout of the home. It was cozy, compact, and homily. As she entered the living room, he could see various acutrima dotting the shelves. Giving the other mage a nod as she informed him, she was getting ready he did not even wait a second after she had turned down the hall to start looking at the various shelves and

The first one he stepped up to had various books and tomes, the first one he picked up went in vast detail into various plants, components, and herbs. Stating their scientific uses, medical properties, and other interesting details. As he skimmed through it and picked up other various objects and items he saw something in the corner of his eye that he just had to get a better look at.

Stepping forward and reaching he grabbed a framed photo from one of the shelves. On it the chaos mage saw two girls, and immediately wondered if Nessa had a sister he did not know about. The resemblance was uncanny, they looked so similar the only difference the Chaos mage could see was their eyes. Which lead to another of Markus’ realizations. Neither of these girls would be Nessa. First, the looked older, and second nether shared her eye color, yet like her both were strikingly beautiful. It was interesting to the chaos mage. He realized, one of these must me Nessas mother…

Placing the photo down Markus found another picture, this one was of one of the females, and in her hand was a white-haired chubby child. Looking at the picture Markus could not help but smile slightly, a secret smile no one would ever see. The baby was smiling, laughing, brightening the entire mood. Markus knew immediately that it was Nessa, only the Starlight Maiden, Summoner of Valkyries could do such to a scene. Once more Markus could not help but compare their differences, their very natures were so opposite, so vast. Closing his eyes Markus focused, centered around him suddenly the very fabric of reality would change, warp, mold. Light would become darkness, all consuming, vast, hidden. This was no mere absence of light, no mere void of illumination. This darkness was warped, twisted, light if it was black. The aura only extended mere meters from the chaos mage before he forced it back down… sighing he put down the photo and picked up another.

This one held three people, Nessa’s Mother, Father, and the little white-haired girl with a plastered smile. A single tear dripped down the chaos mages face as he thought of the family he never had. A family he was preparing to confront.

He should not be dragging someone with so much light into his darkness.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 29th December 2018, 7:59 am

At the point in time when his daughter and her guildmate had entered the house, a Mr Richard Lux was loitering in the basement. The man was walking about his home lab, collecting some materials he'd forgotten to bring to work that morning. Some papers he had written up and some vials he needed to present to his boss in preparation for their next presentation. He was just finishing the task of packing them into his briefcase when he heard footsteps upstairs. He would glance upwards, a smile on his face. He could only imagine who that was, his beloved daughter. Whom was home so rarely these days, a bittersweet necessity.  Ever since she had joined Fairy Tail, he had seen less and less of Nessa. Occasionally she would join them for dinner or even breakfast, but time together was sparse. He wished he could see more of her, but he would sacrifice that desire in order to allow her to reach her dreams. He was most proud. His daughter, who only a few years ago, he barely recognised, had returned to the happy bundle of love and light her knew her as. On top of that, she was finally reaching her full potential, a guilds ace, wizard saint of purity. His co-workers were nearly sick of all the times he went on about her.

Richard packed up his briefcase and made his way upstairs, hoping he would catch Nessa before she disappeared again. The entrance of the basement opened up from the kitchen; he climbed up the stairs before quietly shut the door behind him. He deduced that she must be upstairs, he was sure he had heard her rushing up to her room. Yet, as he stepped into the hallway, he could hear someone else, another body in his home, exploring his living room. Richard crept up to the door, peeking around through the gap in the slightly ajar door. He spotted a male, a red-head between his mid-to-late twenties. Richard didn't say anything, as the man looked through their personal photos. He only observed. Richard presumed this must be a guildmate of Nessa, he couldn't exactly be a robber cause he was so casually perusing their living quarters. Plus Richard could read his daughter's magical signature from the moment she stepped into the house, he knew it well enough to know she was busy bouncing around upstairs.

As Richard watched the mans quiet moment, he raised his palm, quietly pressing on the living room door to open it wider. Richard knew the man was having a private moment, a moment he most likely didn't want to share with another. So Richard decided to speak up, before things became too uncomfortable for the young man. "Like a twinkling star in the darkest night, still she shines." He said softly, walking across the room over to the stranger. "She's always been that way, Nessa, much like her mother was." He said. When Markus would look at Richard, he would see a man in his forties, with messy brown hair, chin covered in stubble. He was a little shorter than Markus, but not by much. He wore a white shirt and brown waistcoat, brown corduroy trousers and mahogany-coloured leather brogues. He looked relatively good for his age, except for the edges of his eyes which were lined with crows feet. The sign of a man who smiled often. Looking up at the man with violet eyes that so resembled Nessas.

"You are a guildmate of my daughters are you not? Let me guess," He would take a moment to think, "Markus perhaps?" He asked, Nessa had told them many stories about her guildmates, so many so that Richard was sure he could name every one of them at first sight. There was but one red-headed enigma, which she kept significantly quiet about. Only revealing the minimum. Richard would cock his head curiously at the mage. "Do you mind answering a set of riddles for me?" He began, pleased that Nessa hadn't realised he was home. If she knew he was doing this, she would undoubtedly be furious. "First, What belongs to you, but is used by others? Second, What is it that no man wants to have, but no man wants to lose? and lastly, What can be broken without being touched?" He asked, moving away, he would move over to his armchair, turning into it he would sit down. Gesturing at the couch for Markus to sit across from him.

All the while upstairs in her bedroom, Nessa was rummaging through her room, packing her things away. As far as she knew, she was alone, with Markus, in her house. She was still debating on whether or not this was a good idea. Surely it would be fine, as long as they didn't linger alone too much. Not that anything would happen if they would, they had agreed that nothing else would happen between them. Besides, it's not like they were drinking, alcohol had certainly fueled whatever it was that had occurred between them before — drunken recklessness. That's all it was. As she finished bagging up her stuff, she glanced around the room. Making sure there wasn't anything she missed; she had packed a change of clothes, first aid kit, and other generic items you would take on a long journey. As she glanced around, her eyes caught sight of Avens poem pinned to the wall, amongst photos of herself with Arcadia, and the Valkyries. There was also that. A matter she still hadn't brought herself to address. Mainly because the time, just wasn't right.

She left her room, slowly making her way down the stairs, she headed into the kitchen to pack a few snacks and bottles of water. As she zipped up the bag, she made her way into the living room where Markus was waiting. "Okay, I'm pretty sure I got everythi- DAD!" She said dropping the bag she was holding. Eyes wide and she glanced from her father to Markus. "What are you doing here?"

Markus was looking at the picture, a curious look upon his face when he heard him, a mans voice, soft and caring. Turning on his heel the chaos make kept a hold of the image in his hand, he had been too distracted, too occupied in his own mind to have been using his sensory abilities. He knew, had this man have meant him harm he could certainly be in trouble. As it was the chaos mage recognized him immediacy, not that he had ever met him before, but his eyes were just like Nessa, and Markus knew he was the man in the image he held. The man was younger than Markus expected, with brown hair and a rather nice set of clothes. He looked to be a man opposite of the chaos mage, one who smiled a lot, and with great care.

The chaos mage watched causally as he approached but showed no signs of moving closer nor away. He knew the man meant him no harm, but as always, he could not stop that shred of doubt within his mind. If the man looked at him, he would have seen the single tear as it fell, Markus having been too stubborn to wipe it away. His face however was once more stone cold, calculating, blank, despite the silver trail. Markus wondered if the man had seen his display of magic, had the chaos mage had the slightest inkling that he wasn’t alone, he would have kept a hold on it, bottling the darkness as he always did.

“She certainly is something…” He could not come up with a word to describe how he felt, or what he thought. In the end, almost as a whisper he said the only thing which he felt explained her, or at least… how he remembered her. “Unpredictable.” His voice would be passive, emotionless, blank. Not cruel or vindictive, nor welcoming and kind. Markus nodded when the man asked if he was a guildmate, from this position the man would be able to see the symbol on his arm, now that Markus was not turned away from him. He was however surprised to hear that the man knew his name. “That is correct, I am… surprised she spoke of me. You must be her father?” he asked, hoping for a name.

Giving the man a succinct nod, the mage turned his mind to the task at hand and set the picture back in its home. He enjoyed riddles, challenge, thinking. The last time he had played a game of riddles was at Mimirs Well… The man he spoke to had been strange and reveled many things to the chaos mage. Markus was still unsure if he would rather have never met the man. The truths he learned haunted his nightmares even to this day, and the secrets he reveled left Markus spinning at the best of times.

Sitting down the mage looked into the older man’s eyes, studying him, thinking, questioning. Not once would his eyes leave the mans, even as he thought in his own mind.  The first seemed obvious to Markus, perhaps even too obvious. After all, there are many things that belong to someone, yet used by others. In the end, Markus thought back to when he was in the void, and the difference between Nessa and Markus’ memory. He knew his answer was not conventional, yet it was no less true. “Time” It is true, you decide your time, you own your life, yet for most people time is given and never gained. Jobs, moments, memories, all of those are used by other. Even the time he spent in the void was due to another.

The second riddle caused the mage to think even more, there seemed to be no obvious answer. Love did not make sense, nor did family, or even friends. Too many people sought those out. In the end, the chaos mage came up with two answers, and went with the first. “A Lawsuit…” Really it was what made sense, in a traditional setting at least.

Only in the last riddle did Markus look away, his eyes glanced downwards for the smallest of moments, as if involuntary. Yet, his answer came without thought, almost as if not of his own accord. “A Heart.” It was only after the chaos mage said it did he realize he shouldn’t have, after all, it was right as Nessa entered the room, exclamating towards her father, and asking a question of him. Markus only glanced in her direction before speaking to her father.

“I have one for you.” He thought back to the first riddle Mimir gave him, it fit perfectly. After all, if the man was as smart as Markus started to believe, then his answers would be very reveling, something the mage refused to give in.

“Two things, Two words. I am but two. In order to keep me, you must give me away. What am I?” Markus paused for just a moment before also asking a question, one that would only make sense if you knew the riddle. His tone was different, asked in a wayo to make it certain it was not part of the riddle. “Do I have yours?” He wanted to be sure that nothing the man learned left their small conversation. It was verbatim what Markus heard at the well, when he leaned just how important such a game can be.

Turning towards his fellow mage Markus spoke up. “You were such a beautiful child, smiling just as much then as you do now, I see.” The chaos mage said simply, in his traditional manor. However, his words had a purpose. He was hoping to throw off the other mage, keep her from contemplating what was said, what she might have heard. “Your father here was just keeping me company, telling me all sorts of things.” Only now did the chaos mage allow a small amount of emotion to enter his voice, just enough to let someone know he was being sarcastic. “And giving me a stimulating challenge.” Markus stood and looked towards the man, holding out his hand.

“It was a pleasure to meet you.” Glancing towards Nessa he raised an eyebrow, “Ready?”

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 3rd January 2019, 2:42 pm

Richard's violet eyes would watch Markus's features curiously; he did see the tear. Alas, he said nothing, allowing the moment to pass for the younger man. This was a stranger after all, and it seemed like whatever he was thinking about was far too private for Richard to delve into. He listened to his comment about Nessa, it was a curious adjective to use for her. Unpredictable. Yet, as he thought of his late wife Cordelia, and the little things she would do that would often little him in a state of pleasant surprise. His eyes would soften, glancing over at her face on the face on the photo. Her brilliant smile, shining brightly, lighting up every room. Yes, she had never ceased to amaze him, so why wouldn't his daughter be the same. He brought his gaze back to Markus as he asked for confirmation that he was Nessa's father.  "That I am. Dr Richard Lux, but please call me Richard."

After he had made his way to the armchair, he awaited the answers to his riddle; the man seemed rather unfazed by the light quizzing. Richard would listen quietly, saying no more as he took in each response. At the last one, his lip would curl slightly into a small smile. Interesting... He thought. It was after this point that his boisterous daughter would entire the room. He turned his head to look at her, his smile broadening at the sight of her. She looked well, something he couldn't help but be glad about. "I forgot some materials I required for a presentation and popped home. I was in the lab when you and your... guildmate arrived.  I decided I'd come up and say hello before you passed through." He explained. As Markus addressed him once more with a riddle of his own, Richard would sit up slightly. Intrigued by this decision, he would tilt his head, taking it in. He went over it for a moment, breaking it down, a few different answers came to mind, a secret, a promise. Something niggled in his mind, telling him to look further. As Markus followed up with another question, Richard's eyes would draw up to the younger man. He understood, yes that was it. A promise to keep this a secret, what he'd seen, what they'd discussed. This seemed to be something the man didn't want dicussed with anyone, Richard's eyes would glance to his daughter from a moment. A secret from Nessa, that seemed fundamentally the key point he was making, seeing as Richard didn't interact with many others Markus's might know. He would return his gaze back to the man, and offer him a small succinct nod. He would keep his word

Nessa stared between the two men, nodding at her father's response, she couldn't help but feel a little uncertain. Having no means as to guess what they had been talking about. As far as parenting went, her father had always been a bit of a softie. If there was ever any discipline in the household, it had been from her mother or following her passing, her Aunt Antoinette. Her dad was more of the type of father that would sneak you some ice cream after being grounded to make you feel better. She had only seen him angry a few times, and one of those times had been after meeting Rex. Her father did not like Nessa's ex-boyfriend in the slightest, and after their complicated break up. A break that which he knew very little about, other than that they could no longer make their relationship work. It had never occurred to him to pry any deeper, that his sister in law or daughter were hiding a very dark, painful secret. As she glanced between him and Markus, she couldn't feel any animosity. Not like there had been when Rex. It was as far as she could tell completely okay, she relaxed slightly, relieved that they at the least didn't hate each other.

She listened as Markus proceeded to comment on how she was a beautiful child, she relaxed slightly, letting out a laugh. "Oh god, you saw those. Dad seriously, baby photos, do you have any self-control?" She said in a teasing tone to her father, Richard shrugged, "Hey! Don't blame me, he was already looking at them when I got here." He said smiling back. Nessa glanced at Markus, wriggling her nose at him. "So nosey!" She said to him. When he made a comment about the riddles, she sighed loudly and rolled her eyes, "Riddles, really Dad?" She said in a tone of a daughter who had seen such behaviour far too many times, she glanced back at Richard. "Well, did he pass? or do we need to lock him in the basement?" Richard would grin, shaking his head, "Oh no, this one's going in the basement with the others, you grab him, I'll get the sedative." Nessa laughed, she enjoyed messing around with her father a bit, they didn't get much time together these days, some a little banter while they could was nice, refreshing even.

Richard shook Markus's hand, "Pleasure's all mine," He replied, Nessa walked over to him, leaning down she would give her father a peck on the cheek. "I'll be gone for a day or two, maybe longer depending on how this job goes." She told him, he would nod in response. "Be safe, both of you." He replied softly, glancing between them both. She mouthed 'love you' at him, which he mouthed back — a small exchange of affection. She smiled before looking back at Markus. "Yep, let's go." She turned, waving goodbye to her father before leading Markus back out into the hallway and out of the house. She shut the door behind him before giving him a sheepish look, "Sorry about that; I didn't expect him to be home." She said in an awkward tone, at the very least it had gone pleasantly enough. "So guess it's your turn to lead, we're going that place you were talking about earlier right?"

Markus did not respond in any way when the older man nodded to him, he knew immediately that the man had understood his meaning and had been willing to keep what he had seen between the two men. It was strange for the chaos mage, knowing this man who he had just met had seen him in such a state. However, like his daughter Markus knew, somehow, that he could trust Richard, and as such accepted his word. One day, the chaos mage would speak to Nessa, tell her who he was, what he could do. However, that would be a tough conversation… and one they would have to have before they reached Bellam.

Markus listened with a passive ear as the two talked. It was strange for the chaos mage, listening to their merriment but being unable to join. Nessa’s response to what he had seen was pretty close to what he had expected, after all what adult wants their parent showing off their pictures. When she turned to him he gave her a small half smile, the best he could force at this time, to her accusation. He was nosey, and curious, and persistent. She should know this already, as such he felt no need to remark upon the situation. It was so strange, seeing her now so powerful, and seeing her in the picture, so innocent, then his mind flicked to the painting… In the end he closed his eyes and listened as the teased her dad about the riddles.

It seemed to Markus that this was a standard affair with her father, and by her tone she saw nothing to meaning behind such things the chaos mage however had seen his eyes, and the way he nodded. Like Markus the man had more meanings, more thoughts to the riddles, more than just mere challenges. Markus himself only wondered if he passed the mans test. His eyes shot open however as they spoke about locking him in the basement, for the briefest moment his paranoia kicked in before he calmed himself and realized it was all a joke. The two were once more acting as father and daughter, at least… how a family should be. Markus was passive through it all until Nessa informed him it was time to go.

As they left the house, he turned to her and raised an eyebrow at her apologies. “It is no problem, Richard seems like a good man.” He said passively, dismissing her sorry. When she next spoke, he got silent. She was right, it was his turn to lead. Taking a deep breath, he took a sudden turn down a narrow ally. It ended suddenly, the way they came in was the only way out. Taking a breath, gathering his resolve the chaos mage spoke.

“I am unsure how to explain everything to you. However, the short version is we are going to a place known as the Primordial Void, or more specifically the Domain of Chaos within the Primordial Void. A realm controlled and managed by the Primordial Chaos, a being of… immense strength.” He paused for a second. Thinking. “I will not lie to you. The realm of Primordials is… dangerous. They do not like beings not of their land, and many hate what the gods have created. Including humans. Chaos is… different, she is unbias, and as long as you are near me you will be safe in ‘her’ domain.” Markus’ voice would be strange, as if telling a secret, yet trying to stay passive, and calm. He was contemplating, and would hardly look at the Starlight Maiden… When he spoke up again his voice was quite and laced with… something. “The primordial void is where I was trapped for four yea… months. It is not a place you want to get lost. Please… Stay near me.” He held out his hand towards the female mage, offering her to take it.

A voice rang in his head, soft, almost a whisper. ‘Oh, not gonna tell her about me huh….?’, it was laced with menace, and doubt. Markus knew immediate which side of Aporia he was dealing with. ‘How ever will you hide my presence once we are there...?’ Markus gave her no answer, he was not sure yet.

Only after she grabbed his hand would Markus look away and concentrate. He knew, she would feel what he was. As his mind searched, and entered the Primordial Void, he proximity and touch would allow her too to feel the strange land. Whispers, calls, cries of unknown beings would ring in their minds, until suddenly they quieted. Markus had found what he was looking for, his tether to chaos, his connection with her domain. It would feel, empty, blank, yet massive, uncontrollable. Markus held up his other hand, his eyes still closed. Suddenly, a portal would form, shimmering in the shadow of the alley, nothing but blackness would be seen through its depths. “I can not hold it open long… I have never done this with another.” Markus said, his eyes still closed as he directed the two mages through the portal, into the Domain of Chaos. Into his home.

Markus knew, the first time one entered the void would be the worse. All things were different in chaos. There was no time, no space. No direction, and no warmth. No cold, and no temperature. Everything that marked Creation, that marked the realms of the gods was nonexistent within this land. As they stepped into the portal the two would find themselves standing upon a semi-circle outcove and balcony, made of intricate and strange stone bricks. The railing was made of strange Celtic patters, stone which crisscrossed over one another, protecting someone from falling to their death. or... a much worse fate, falling into the void.

However, it was only once one looked further did, they realize how much things had changed. The stars, the sky, the sun, and the moon were nonexistent in this world, the sky was a mismatch of dark shades, blues, purples, and reds which shifted as Chaos moved through the void. Directly overhead one would see a river, however it followed no land-form and seemed to move on its own through the strange land, twisting and turning to an unseen current. If one looked close enough they would see what looked to be a child dressed in white, looking down at the balcony questioning.

As one looked more, they would realize this balcony was one of many, behind them was a magnificent castle made of dark ethereal granite, home to the Court of Chaos. At the center of the balcony was a doorway, the windows which lined this edge of the castle were black, impossible to see through. The door was closed.

Markus found himself looking at Nessa, still holding her hand. He would wait for the other mage to catch her bearing.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 11th January 2019, 8:25 am

Fortunately for Nessa, Markus didn't seem to too bothered about having to meet her Dad. Honestly, she hadn't ever imagined a scenario where the two of them would have to meet, yet she found herself pleasantly surprised. Perhaps after the unfortunate disagreement, they had experienced after introducing Rex to her family just made her a little more cautious about these things. She hadn't exactly picked up on why her father didn't like him, only that there was something about his 'mannerisms' around his daughter that set the man on edge. Nessa at the time had been blind to it, the commanding way in which Rex spoke to her ordering her to do things in a way that suited him. The way he would patronise her naivete and pass it off as a joke, passively portraying her as an idiot. Even the way that when she wasn't looking, he would openly stare at her body in a way that in no way hid his intentions for it. At the time, Nessa just thought he was doing what boyfriends do, she in no way expected his subtle toxicity to cause her Father to throw him out the house — resulting in the biggest fight Nessa, and Richard had ever had. A common disagreement between fathers and daughters, the girl wanted to defend her boyfriend the father wanted to protect his child — following which the two barely spoke to each other for weeks. So for Nessa, the fact that her father seemed fine with Markus was a relief and had even been fine with Aven when they had been introduced to each other. But then again, she had to acknowledge a key difference here, neither of those two were dating her.

Nessa followed Markus as he would take the lead, eventually taking her into an alleyway. She stopped with him, turning to him as he began to explain things to her. He started talking about the void, and primordial chaos, words and beings she had no concept of. She tried to grasp what he was saying as best she could, but knew that until she saw it. She wouldn't truly be able to understand it. When he told her about it was dangerous, she looked at him seriously. For Markus to say that, well, it meant something. When he told her to stay close, she nodded, she had no intention of going walkabouts in the place that essentially trapped him for so long. She glanced down as he offered his hand, she hesitated for a moment. Before scalding herself for being silly, he was just holding it to guide her there, nothing else. She placed her hand in his, "Lead the way." She said softly.

After a moment, she sensed it; something was occurring around her. She could feel a strange, unfamiliar energy around them, and noises would rin out in her ears. Whispers, cries, Nessa gulped, unsure how to handle the sounds, it was an eerie sensation. Then, they would cease all of sudden. Silence. And an even more peculiar, like nothing yet everything at the same time. In the shadow of the alley a portal appeared before then, at Markus's word, Nessa nodded, following him swiftly through it. As she re-emerged with him on the other side of the portal, Nessa felt... nothing. It was oddly suitable for the term he used, void. Void of everything. Nessa glanced around; they had appeared on balcony, shaped like a semi-circle and made up off curious looking bricks. Around its edge a unique railing, intricately designed in some kind of pattern. It seemed similar to the same kind of intricate markings she had seen in Valhalla, yet not quite the same as the Norse designs the Valkyries used.

She would look up, and feel her heart sink slightly. There weren't there. The stars and she couldn't feel them either. Wherever she went, and anytime she travelled through a portal, the sky was always the first place she would look. So that she could see her stars, those celestial entities she felt such a strong connection, it was always reassuring to know they would still be there, twinkling above her. Yet, it seemed that here, in this place, that would not be the case. For the short amount of time they would be here, she would just have to survive without her stars. Not to say the sky wasn't a fascinating sight, all the different colours that seem to be running across it. It was ominous but also beautiful. She glanced back at Markus, realising she was ogling a little bit. She could still feel her hand in his, yet wasn't sure whether it was okay to let go yet. "It's so... different." She said, stating the only word she could think of. She had never been in a world like this before. She had been in worlds encased in darkness, and some that practically overflowed with energy. But here just felt so empty, a sensation she wasn't used to.

She would look around once more, noticing the other balconies that seemed to belong to a castle, magnificent and dark. Then her eyes would fall on the door. Nessa wondered if this was where they were going to, after all, didn't Markus need to collect some things? At least that was what she thought unless he had decided that it was best for them to pass through. She wasn't sure what to expect of the man, as she met his gaze. "Umm..." She began awkwardly, "What now?" She said with a shrug and a half-smile. Trying to play the strangeness of the moment off casually, yet she couldn't help but feel odd here. To add to the oddness of the place, she also had the weird feeling, like something was watching them.

Markus kept a close eye on the female mage, making sure she was doing okay as she got settled, as her body got used to the Void. As soon as her eyes opened, he would listen passively as she spoke. Different was certainly an understatement, the chaos mage remembered well his first time being pulled into the Domain of Chaos. Glancing about he finally let go of the other mages hand, having no need to keep her ‘that’ close any more.

“Now, I guess we go to my room.” Markus said casually, after all he needed to get changed and grab a few items. Walking from the balcony he opened the single door and allowed Nessa inside.

For anyone that really knew the chaos mage, the room would have probably been exactly as one would expect. Other than being quite a bit larger than an average den it was mostly unadorned. There was a fireplace along one wall, unlit but with wood within the hearth, an assortment of pokers and utensils lay nearby. In the corner was a large bed with four posts, made neatly with white sheets. Two doors, other than the one they had entered from, were sunk into the stone. One was opposite them, and the other would be to the right across from the mantle.

The only other piece of furniture within the room would be a pair of large painting easels. They would be facing away from the bed, and towards the windows, their frames were empty however a stand nearby would have water and paint nearby. As if they had been used within the last few days. They would be facing towards the windows, which from inside the room were absolutely clear, as if one could walk strait through them.

Looking around, Markus eyes the easels, glad he had remembered to deliver those paintings. Otherwise, this would have been a much more awkward encounter. Looking towards Nessa, he spoke up. “Well, this is it. It is not much…” His voice was passive, as usual. He was not sure what else to say about it. “To the right is the wash, and storage. I am gonna go get a few items, and change.” Markus said starting to walk away. “Make yourself at home, shouldn’t be long. Sorry there are no baby photos for you to snoop through.” Markus said, though his voice held no real humor.

As he stepped through the other door and closed it behind him, his thoughts were on his family. He had yet to tell her about the Estate, or his family. Though, to be fair he very much doubted there would be any baby pictures of him for her to find once there. It was possible, should they avoid detection, that he might not have to tell her about them at all.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 17th January 2019, 5:07 pm

Nessa felt Markus's hands leave hers; he would answer her question. She blinked at him for a moment, for only the briefest of moment misinterpreting what he said. Then realising that they were of course, here for a reason, and nothing else. She nodded, watching as he went to open and door for her, she would follow him, stepping inside the room. Her eyes would quick take in the room, her curiosity about what kind of place Markus lived in soon to be sated. The room, for the most part, was sparse. She would take a few steps forward, turning to look over it all. She turned to Markus, a soft smile on her face. He spoke, saying that it wasn't much. He was right it wasn't, but it didn't really surprise her. "It's very you." She said with a small chuckle. He spoke about getting changed and getting stuff ready. Making a comment about baby photos, normally that would've been something she might have chuckled at. But there was just the blank way in which Markus said it; it just made Nessa felt like it wasn't the right response. So instead, she simply nodded.

He left and went into another room, leaving her alone in his bedroom. Nessa would first walk over to the fireplace, aside from the wood in the hearth and the pokers to the side, there wasn't much else about it. As Markus said, there were no small decorative pieces like the things her Aunt would have bought at an Antique shop. Nor where there any photos to resemble any sort of reflection of his life. It was such an alien thing to her, Nessa understood full well the sentiment of a prized possession, something from your past that brought forward a fond memory. Did Markus not have that? Or perhaps, it was just something he wasn't willing to share with her? She sighed, moving away from the fireplace and over to the easel. She cocked her head at it, "He paints...?" She said softly to no one in particular, her tone laced with a rhetorical question. She approached, looking around the room. Despite this, she couldn't see any canvases, no evidence of any art he'd been working on or had done: just the easel, and a stand with paint and water on it. Nessa tried to imagine what Markus might paint; her mind went through the different types of art she new, perhaps still life? It was had to picture. Maybe she would get a chance to ask him.

She turned and looked at the bed, Nope. She was not going anywhere near that thing; she did not have a good history with beds and Markus. Her mind flickered back to that night, which only made her feel irritable. She really wanted to get those thoughts out of her head, yet it seemed it was such an easy memory to prompt she wouldn't even have to try and she would see it in her mind. Despite her intoxication, that moment, the look in his eyes as he spoke that single word, the feel of his lips. Nessa who had been wandering as she daydreamed, caught the heel of her foot and fell forward. With a slight squeal, she hit the floor, reducing the brunt of the trip with her heads. She lay there for a moment, before quickly scuttling to her feet, and brushing down her clothes. "Idiot." She mumbled under her breath, referring to herself.

The chaos mage had already disappeared into the washroom and closed the door behind him, his mind on preparing for the situation at hand, planning for the best ways to enter the estate, escape with the girl, and make sure his family never knew he was there. As such he was oblivious to the presence that was about to make itself known.

From just outside of the physical plane she watched the female mage walked the room, exploring, examining. Aporia always thought it was sad, now Markus kept nothing of his past, of his jobs, of his life. Other than the small amount of items within the chest in the closet, he had nothing. Of course, that was his choice, and she was not to argue with it. Just as it was his choice to bring her here, where he knew Aporia would have power, strength.

When the mage reached the easel Aporia almost spoke up, almost answered. In truth painting had became a resent hobby for him, sense learning he could apply his skill, and her knowledge ever sense getting ‘that’ job. Yet it seemed to calm the chaos mage, give him something to do, and more importantly seemed to be an interesting hobby. The first that she had seen him develop. However, Aporia remained silent as the Nessa continued her path, exploration. Aporia found it interesting she only looked at the bed, yet never got closer to it. She knew, if Nessa looked under the pillow, she would have found one of Markus’ secrets. Yet, she seemed to have control Markus did not, an ability to hold back her curiosity.

If she had a body, she might have smiled as Nessa tripped, not in a cruel way, but more in curiosity. Unfortunately, she was connected to Markus’ mind, and as such was only privy to his thoughts. She would kill to know what was on the Starlight Maidens mind. Finally however, she decided to speak.

Her voice would seem ethereal, soft, and calm. It was a repeat of the voice that had spoken to Mythal, a serine and strange sound. “You should ask him to paint you something. He is quite good, has a real talent in painting beautiful things…” Having no body, she would be impossible to find, but due to her connection with Markus it would sound as if the voice was coming from the door. Luckily for the Nephilim she had some control here, and unless he looked in the mirror, he would be unaware of her appearance, and be unable to hear her voice unless he concentrated. Besides, it would be good for the girls to talk. “I am Aporia by the way, we have not officially met. Though, I believe you have at least some knowledge of my brother… Mars. By the way, this a chance for just us to talk, Markus will not know.” She added when speaking to the female mage.

Aporia had no way to know how much this girl knew, but if she knew anything about Mars, it would probably give her at least some insight into what Markus deals with. “It is… good… I think, to finally get this chance to speak with you. Things have been, strained sense Markus returned to Earthland.” Aporia was about to get to her point, and she knew, the woman would probably be angry with her, after all, Aporia does not always care about what she says, and she had been quite rude to the woman once before.

“There is something you need to know, Markus probably would not tell you himself, but if he loosen control, if Chaos takes over… He will do something he will regret.” Aporia told the Startlight Maiden. Aporia, in her current state at least, was worried for the chaos mage. Even when he would not admit it to himself, he is personally attached to this job, and if he lost control… then she would too.

“This job is very personal to the young progeny. Please, watch out for him will you?” Aporia finished, her voice a questioning tone.

Meanwhile the chaos mage had just finished getting dressed, and found himself looking into the mirror within the wash room. His eyes opened wide as he realized they were alight with magic, in the same what as when Aporia makes herself known. Taking a deep breath he walked from the room into the main foyer.

“Aporia…” He shook his head before looking towards Nessa. Well, I guess I have a few things to explain.” He said simply, passively, as neutral as ever as if nothing was amiss.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 26th January 2019, 3:05 pm

Taking a moment to get over the momentary embarrassment of falling over her own feet. She was at the least glad that no one saw that, she was trying to get over the 'clumsy' image she had amongst her guildmates, especially now she was an Ace. Falling over all the time didn't exactly shout 'mature, and graceful'. She would check over her clothes, wearing white didn't fair well with missions, how many times she went home with her clothes barely salvageable she couldn't count. It seemed this time, her clothes were fine, yet that most likely wouldn't last when they got to Bellum. She had no idea what to expect of this job they were doing. Saving a girl sold into slavery, meant that there could be a fight on their hands, and the job specifically stated that they would be dealing with powerful magic users. I do not care what the casualties are. It had said, that was a little darker than Nessa was comfortable with. Markus and Nessa hadn't seen eachother in so long, but that didn't mean she had forgotten by any means what she had seen that dark. The death of those mages, what Markus did. She hadn't witnessed anything like that since his return, but that didn't mean he wasn't capable of doing it again. She debated bringing it up with him, afterall, she was the superior on this mission, being an Ace. But still, it was a sensitive matter, who knew just what was happening to that girl. She would have to play it by ear and control the matter in any way she could, the last thing she wanted was to cause animosity between her and Markus. The tension between them last time had been palpable, driving her to drink herself silly, although it hadn't ended so badly. A least they were okay with eachother the next day, maybe a little too okay. Nessa glanced back at the bed, sighing. Her only romantic encounter since her seperation from Rex, and she had been a drunken idiot. Throwing herself at a man, who openly admitting her didn't trust her, nor could he ever love her. It was foolish, she knew that, yet she just hadn't been able to stop herself, nor could she really bring herself to regret it. Not really.

The voice of the woman broke out of the nowhere, Nessa jumped erratically, gasping loudly and raising her hands up defensively. She glanced around trying to find the source of the voice, but saw no once. Her heart pounded furiously, OH GOD, OH NO, OH NO, She thought it panic, as her mind began to rattle with thoughts of ghosts and ghoulies. She trembled slightly, she stepped towards the door Markus had gone through, she needed to go to him, she couldn't deal with this. No way, no way could she handle a ghost. The voice spoke again, causing her to freeze, squeaking slightly. She heard the name Aporia and stopped, realising that it sounded familiar. She listened, and slowly as she calmed down, it dawned on her that this was the voice she had heard on Shadow Island. When she and Johann had been dealing with the Clockwork creatures and randomly bumped into Markus. She mentioned Mars, Nessa glanced around, she still couldn't see where the voice was coming from. Was she hiding somewhere in this room?

"Where are you?" She asked, a little confused, the last time she had heard this womans voice had been through Markus. But Markus wasn't in the room right now, so what did this mean? The voice, Aporia as she referred herself, would continue to talk. Nessa felt her heartrace slow once more, her fear subsided. She didn't seem threatening, at least not right now. "What's your connection to Markus?" She asked after the voices comment about Markus's return. The next comment cause Nessa to grow still, the woman spoke about Markus losing control, and chaos taking over. Talking about him doing something he might regret. "What do you mean Chaos?" She asked. The next question, Nessa looked ahead, she nodded before realising she wasn't actually sure if Aporia could see her or not. So she spoke, barely more than a whisper. "I will." There was no hesitation in her voice, despite any weirdness between her and Markus. She truly wanted to be his friend and as a friend, even she could acknwoledge that she cared for his wellbeing. She would do whatever she could to help him, even if she didn't fully understand what it was she was dealing with.

The door opened suddenly, Nessa turned to look at him, she felt a tinge of relief. Despite knowing that Aporia was probably not a ghost, not being able to see her did not help her feel at ease. He began by saying her name, before commenting that he had some explaining to do. Nessa look at him for a moment, a small smile. "Um, Aporia was just introducing herself." She said trying to show that she was okay with this information. She couldn't expect to know everything about Markus, and even if it was a shock, she was willing to accept him regardless.

Aporia watched as Nessa reacted, the Nephilim would have cocked its head, and given the strangest look were it in control of Markus’ body. She did not think she had done anything overtly scary, yet the other mages response was certainly amusing, having responded quite violently the seal could only wonder if she had stumbled across a phobia? To be fair, it was not often one heard voices, at least not for normal people. Markus just had to deal with her.

“Well, that is a complicated question. Easiest answer? I am here, currently at least. Generally, I am within Markus.” The female voice would respond, still vaguely coming from the door, yet obviously sources in ambiance. “Such a strange first question. Expect me to jump out and scare you?” Aporia asked her voice slightly amused. Unlike her vessel she was certainly capable of displayer her emotions.

“That’s better… But no easier to answer. I guess you can say whilst he lives, I am apart of him. I feed him my power, and he keeps me company, even if it is the most boring of sort.” Aporia was certain to watch the woman for her responses, after all it was no often, she got to speak so directly with those her vessels knew. Very few previous Progenies had been powerful enough to bring another into this realm.

Aporia watched as the other woman stiffened growing still. Aporia knew she had the womans attention, and that was important. Yet, the question she received was far from what she expected. “Chaos is the personification of disorder, and pandemonium. The natural state of things to lead away from order, and creation. Unless you are asking about… ah it matters not. You are within chaos, or at least the Domain of such. Be sure to watch your step, I would hate for you to loose yourself.” Once more Aporias voice would seem amused, in truth she could care less what the female mage did, as long as it did not put Markus in danger. After all, Aporia would then have to wait for another progeny to come along.

It was when Aporia saw the female mage nod, and speak up that the Nephilim found herself satisfied. It was obvious the female mage would care for her friend, even if she could not get everything she might have once wanted from the male mage. “Then I will leave him with you.” Aporia said finally, the voice fading as the words rang out. It would be then that the door would open, and Aporia would hear her vessel speak out towards her.

Worry not progeny, I was just speaking with your girl friend.’ Aporia said with some amusement, the voice only within Markus’ head.

    __

Markus looked at Nessa and heard her speak. It was strange, how understanding she seemed to be, the chaos mage had fully expected a much more difficult explination. Once more, it seemed Aporias nature to just let things go had trumped Markus’ paranoia and mistrust. He was about to speak when he heard Aporia, not yet realizing that only he had heard her.

“She is not m…” His voice died off, his mind catching up. He would look into Nessas eyes. “Well, I guess that makes things easy. Aporia is… Well, she is a friend. Mostly. I did not learn that she was sealed within me till after I had been trapped within the void.” Markus however did not state that Aporia was part of the reason he was trapped, and in fact much of the torment the chaos mage had gone through was in the name of ‘training’.

“If you are ready, we can head off? This realm is part of Void, and connected as long as I know where I am going. I can get us to Bellam through the same portal we came in, as long as I have time to concentrate.”
Markus said giving Nessa a brief explanation. He was not sure if he wanted her to remain in this realm much longer, sooner or later it would lead to questions he certainly did not want to answer.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 6th February 2019, 4:07 pm

As Nessa slowly calmed down, she would quietly listen as Aporia responded to each of her questions. Firstly, addressing something, Nessa had somewhat suspected already. She had heard Aporia talk through Markus before, so it seemed logical that she would exist either inside him and at least communicate through him. Kind of like how Mars did with Johann, but still, now she knew she was surprised. Her having known Markus for so long and never known this about him. She pretty much knew about Mars the moment she met Johann, and yet Markus had never brought this to her attention. She blushed at Aporia's teasing comment, had it been that obvious that she had been scared? That was embarrassing. "Wait, did Markus see that? Or just you?" She asked the hint of nerves under her tone. She really hoped he hadn't seen it; she was trying so hard to prove herself as a competent wizard these days, attempting to rid herself of the clumsy persona she was known for. Markus, in particular, had seen that side of her a few times, which only made the prospect of him watching her trip even worse. Aporia would then continue to explain her connection to Markus, so she just lived inside him. It was weird, Nessa couldn't help but one, how did a living being just live inside someone else. She could only imagine the curious magic that live inside Markus and why he had come to have another entity sharing his body.

Aporia would then explain Chaos to Nessa, it was strange. She had always assumed that Chaos was just a word for mayhem, yet this thing that Aporia was explaining to her was so much more complex. That this realm was a part of it. Nessa felt like she was missing some vital information, she was a little confused. So Chaos was a personification of mayhem, yet it seemed like more than that. A part of her wanted to know, but instead, she decided not to pry. Digging into something that didn't entirely concern her right now seemed a little much. Surely, Aporia would most likely only tell her what she could and not anything she wasn't privy to. At least, that's what she had to assume. Nessa glanced around her comment, wondering how literal it was. Markus had told her to stay close, but he had also left her alone in this room. That meant it was safe in here at least, wasn't it?

It was after Nessa's earnest confirmation that she would do what she could to help, that Aporia seemed satisfied. Following which Markus had entered the room once more, following Nessa's comment, Aporia made a little stated that she would be leaving them to it — all the while referring to Nessa as his 'girl friend'. Her cheeks flushed pink, and she glanced away, of course, she was a girl, and she hoped they were friends. But there was something else that she could've met, something she most certainly was not. Something she doubted she would ever get to be at least, not to Markus. She listened as he began to disagree with Aporia, only to cut himself off. It was awkward enough without pushing it any further. He would address her, drawing her gaze back to him, cheeks still slightly flushed. He had explained that Aporia had been sealed inside him, answering Nessa's earlier thoughts about how Aporia came to exist inside of him. So she had existed in Markus before, but he didn't come to realise until he had disappeared. That somewhat explained how she hadn't come to know before then.

"Sure, lead the way." She replied to his remark about getting them to Bellum. It was probably a good thing too; there was no point in dawdling, especially after the time they had spent talking to her father and travelling so far.

Markus nodded towards the Starlight Maided, it was time for them to go. Meaning, the easy part of this job was over. Taking a deep breath, he gestured towards the door with his hand. The walk-through Chaos’ Domain was should but no less spectacular than their entrance. Most of the time they were walking through the castle, its dark interiors and strange grey stone reflecting shadows and causing strange images to form, as they walked the darkness would seem to move with a life of its own, seeming to bend towards or away from the mages as they walked. Then they would pass windows of a deep amethyst color one could see the shifting, multi colored landscape of the Void, with its floating islands, and streaming rivers. Markus would walk fast, faster than his usual pace, however it was not without its reasons. Markus wanted nothing more than to avoid any other meetings with the denizens of this realm, though most were harmless they would not only slow them down, but lead to questions the chaos mage was not ready to answer.

As they walked Markus spoke up. “The Domain of Chaos is one of the mass multitude of worlds which are housed within the Primordial Void.” Markus started, moving his hand outwards pointing towards a window. “This is the Primodials Castle, created mostly for those chosen to be her progeny. Those like…  myself.” Markus was not sure why he was explaining so much, to be honest it was probably because this was something he felt comfortable talking about, and it kept questions of the mission from coming up. “The Realm itself travels randomly through the Void, like a few other domains, Death, Night, and Pandemonium, to name a few. Most worlds touch the void of the primordials in one way or form, but from what I know not all do, some gods might decide to remove their realms, and exist solely in creation. From… From what I understand the Void is home to those who were before creation, before gods, thought I really do not understand how it all works, I’m not sure if we are supposed to.” The chaos mage said quietly, talking about humans, and remembering his lessons from Aporia.

“Those like myself, with powers of the void can learn to understand the seemingly chaotic nature of the realm and can use our powers to enter and exit the void, ‘Travel’ as it is known. It is how I ‘Teleport’, though until recently I did not know that was the case, nor that I could, with concentration, use that ability to enter and exit at will.”
Markus continued talking as they turned down a long seemingly empty hallway. The chaos mage knew his Travel ability was great in combat, and provided excellent range and usability, however it had a major limitation when using it in the way he was. He was not able to see where he was traveling to, meaning he had to either know the location, or have already been there, and there was no guarantee they would be alone, as he had no way of knowing who might also be in the location.

Markus however could feel that they were not alone, and was relatively certain Nessa with her power, if she was to concentrate, would feel it as well. Her light was drawing their attention, causing the denizens of this realm to come from hiding and explore. Markus knew, they were in no danger, but some of the other progenies were… different, from different eras, or of different mindsets. Hell, Markus would never forget meeting Malaki, the seemingly childlike boy who was, in reality, one of the oldest members of the court. His white eyes still caused Markus to shiver.

Finally the two came to a stop and Markus opened a set of double doors which lead to another, much larger and more intricate balcony resembling the one they had arrived on, however being about twice as large. In the center stood an empty fountain, worn with age and cracked with time. At its center stood a glorious female form, a stone statue of a woman in flowing robes with a metal breastplate and shoulder guards. From her back extended white raven like wings, much like the wings Markus summoned when activating her power. In her left hand was a wicked black spear, pointing outwards towards the abyss. If one were to look closely at the statue, they would see like the fountain itself it was warn with age and cracked in places. At the nape of the females neck one would see a glorious amethyst, almost pulsing with magic. Markus knew, but felt no need to explain that the statue they were looking at was the physical manifestation of Aporias Seal and mimicked the seal within Markus. The statue had started to crumble as Markus almost lost himself and was still in disarray waiting for the chaos mage to regain control. It was only chance that their exit point was in the same location Markus decided, and unless asked he would turn to the Starlight Maiden, ignoring the statue.

“We are hear.” Markus said holding out his hand once more to Nessa. “It will take us but a moment to appear in Bellam, I know the area pretty well…” The chaos mage said quickly. “We should appear not too far from the Estate, and can see what is going on. The client said they would be hosting an event soon, so we can sneak in and out without running into the family…” Markus paused… “The Eldridge family is… powerful. Please be careful…” Markus said looking directly into Nessas eyes before closing his own.

He started to concentrate, once more extending his mind through the void finding the easiest path. Markus had been near the estate on multiple occasions, and had even seen his Sister once before, though never glimpsed his mother or father. He doubted any of then believed him to be alive and knew they would not care.

When his mind finally focused, once more would Nessa feel the strange echoes of void, Markus heard within his mind, and once more there would be a sound of ripping air as suddenly the two were pulled from Void, and back into Earthland Suddenly, their internal compass would click, direction would return, and warm would once more be felt as the sun landed on the two mages. Markus immediately let go of Nessas hand and took a couple steps away.

The area they were in was a small clearing within the woods, far enough from the estate to go unnoticed, but close enough to be walk-able. The forest was a national reserve and belonged to the country. It would not be strange for two mages to be found within its depths. Markus did not need to look around, he remembered the clearing well. It was where his brother used to sneak him out of, and show him the wonders of magic, of fire. This clearing was their secret, the Eldridge siblings last refuge from their family. As far as Markus knew, only one other living person knew of its location.

Suddenly, Markus’ musings were broken as someone spoke up, a female voice, unfamiliar but stern. “fuc.. Who are you!” Turning to the voice Markus immediately recognized the woman and froze. Suddenly standing from her sitting position a female form of strong build and noticeable beauty was looking at the two mages, her hair was crimson in color, and her eyes steel and narrowed. She had not adopted an aggressive stance but stood ready.

Matters of State [Job, Nessa] Empty Re: Matters of State [Job, Nessa]

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 8th March 2019, 3:05 pm

Nessa didn't get her answer about whether Markus saw her fall over, but she could only awesome that he didn't. Either that or he was choosing not to mention it, for her sake. Either way, she was glad, she really didn't want to embarrass herself. Even if there were now walls in place between them, walls that she put in place. Sensible walls that were the sensible thing to do. Even so, she still didn't want to look like an idiot in front of him. She was his ace, and well, it would just be humiliating for him to see her that way. The clumsy fool she was trying so hard not to b anymore.

Nessa followed Markus as he began to walk along, making sure not to stray too far behind him as they walked. This place had already creeped her out a little bit, with its lifeless nature and lack of warmth. Although, the sudden voice talking to her from nowhere had contributed a great deal to that. Still, she was glad that 'Aporia' had chosen to speak to her. At least now, she understood sort of what was going on with Markus. It was a pretty big deal, after all, having a voice inside your head talking and maybe even controlling you. As Nessa thought about it, she had heard this voice before. When they had run into Markus the day, she and Johann had been fighting alongside the clockwork monsters. The voice that Markus spoke with was female, so that must of been Aporia. Which meant what he said was... actually her.

Nessa's cheeks would flush pink for a moment as she reflected on how angry she had gotten, how she had flared up over the prospect of him belittling 'that night', even when she was supposed to be keeping things friendly with him. She wasn't supposed to care about that and yet she had gotten irritated and snappy. Well, if she didn't feel embarrassed about falling over, she certainly felt embarrassed about this. Maybe she could apologise to him at some point, but not now. She looked away, hoping he wouldn't notice her awkward moment of realisation.

Nessa noticed that he had picked up the pace, so she followed suit. Listening as he spoke up suddenly. He was talking about the 'Domain of Chaos'. He went on, to explain what it was, talking about multiple words, and mentioning that title again. The 'Primordial Void'. Then he revealed that he had been chosen to be her 'progeny'. From Nessa knew of that word, is that it meant something akin to a descendant.
"So are you like..related to her?" She asked, although she still wasn't entirely sure who 'her' was, was he talking about Aporia, or did this have more to do with this 'Chaos' that kept being brought up. He went on to talk about The Realm and other domains. Nessa had to admit; she was struggling to keep up; this whole thing was pretty alien to her. But she didn't want to seem stupid and tell him she didn't completely understand it; she would just have to listen and hope she could figure it out. He talking about Void again, he mentioned that it was a place that existed before creation. Nessa blinked, not quite getting this either, if it existed before creation then how was it created in the first place? Maybe she was missing something key here. She felt herself feel frustrated that she hadn't paid more attention in school, perhaps she would understand this better.

Finally, Markus finished with something that Nessa could understand, how he was able to travel into this world. She imagined it had to have something similar to her being about to travel to Valhalla. Her contract with the Valkyries meant she was granted passaged whenever she sought it. So figured that Markus's connection with this 'Chaos' must have resulted in something similar. They were walking along a hallway at this point. Like the rest of the place, Nessa still couldn't feel anything. No breeze, to temperature shifts, it was still just so ...empty. At least it did until something kept into her sensory radar. She felt something stir inside her, a sense of caution. Like she was being watched. She looked around, not really seeing anything, but feeling it there. If the place was making her feel creeped out before, it was even worse now. She even took it upon herself to walk a little closer to Markus. Her arm near enough touching his as she strolled along, pretending that she wasn't freaked out by the experience. If she could see then it might not have been so bad, but the fact she couldn't. Just so happened to trigger that fear of ghosts once more. They weren't real, and to think they would exist he was foolish, but even so, she couldn't help but fret over the possibility of one jumping out at her.

Nessa who wasn't really focusing on anything around her any more rather than the feeling of being watched. Suddenly felt Markus stop beside her, causing her to stop too. She glanced to him, before looking around to see where they had come to. They had reached a set of double doors, which when Markus opened revealed another balcony. This one was a little bigger than the other one and more detailed. Nessa's violet eyes fell on the fountain situated in the centre of the balcony. The fountain itself was pretty dated, but the statue that emerged from it was beautiful. The figure of a woman in long robes plated with armour, she had magnificent white wings, and around her neck, she wore a beautiful amethyst crystal. Markus spoke, pulling Nessa's gaze away from the statue and once more back to here. She saw him extend his hand, and took it eagerly. She was pleased to be moving onto the next place. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate that this was Markus's home, but there was just something about the lifelessness of it. It felt so different from home, and even more so than Valhalla.

He explained what the plan was, she nodded, trusting him to take charge on this part. It was his mission after all. As he closed his eyes, once more she felt the strange sounds she had heard before when they had initially come here. As they reappeared in Earthland, Nessa felt the warmth his her skin. She sighed enjoying the sensation for a moment. This. This was what she was used to. Markus's hand left hers, and he instantly moved away. Reminding her of the mission at hand. They had arrived in a small clearing surround by trees. It seemed that Markus was family with the area, so Nessa was happy to follow him we're the to move closer to the estate. However, they didn't even get a chance. A voice caught Nessa's attention. She looked around. Standing there was a woman, Nessa immediately noticed how beautiful she was, with her purple eyes and her long red hair. She didn't look friendly either, Nessa looked at Markus. The woman looked pretty hostile, and from what Markus had said he didn't really want to get noticed. Sneak in, sneak out. They couldn't do that if they got caught so early. Nessa bit her lip, Think Nessa! She thought.

Then as an idea came to mind, before she could even change her mind, she stepped over to Markus. Hugging his arm in a seemingly familiar manner, "Sweetie, you said we were gonna be alone out here," She said in a whining tone, WHAT AM I DOING?! She thought, internally cringing at her own words. But still, there was no use going back now. She just hoped Markus would play along.

Markus turned towards Nessa as he spoke and thought about her question. He was certainly not related to Chaos, nor Aporia. Though he knows the primordial calls the Progenies its ‘children’, so he guessed in a since he was adopted. “No, I am not related to Chaos.” Markus said passively. “Chaos is a Primordial Being, however… I guess you can say I was ‘adopted’, and much of my power has come from ‘her’…’its’ gifts.” Markus still was not sure how to explain Chaos, he had only been within the Primordials presence a couple of times, the first time it revealed itself as a veiled shadow, however since that first time every time he had seen the being, it had been in the form of a female. A female who, according to the Primordial, was the visage of who he most desired, or most feared. Markus had yet to decide which, but he worried, should Nessa meet the being it would reveal much more than felt comfortable with.

As his vision focused, and the clearing from his childhood came into focus, Markus’ eyes opened wide, as he looked upon the red-haired female. He could feel her power, and her strength, comparable in power to Markus and Nessa’s there was no doubt in his mind that she would be a powerful opponent. However, that is not what worried him the most. For the first time in years, Markus found himself face to face with one of his siblings, in fact as far as his parents were concerned, she was the last remaining Eldridge heir. Taking a deep breath Markus stood frozen, his mind wondering. She had always been such a sweet girl yet looking into her eyes the chaos mage could see something familiar, something… dark. Looking into his sisters’ eyes Markus could see anger, darkness, and mistrust. The eyes of someone who has seen the horrors of life.

Markus’ mouth opened slightly, as if to speak, his mind still figuring out what to say. However, his voice was caught in his throat when he suddenly felt a foreign feeling, a soft and warm form press against his arm and almost mold to his own body. Suddenly, he heard Nessa speak, her voice holding a strange tone, and her posture pressed against himself. His mind took but a moment to realize what she had said, and he immediately realized what she was doing, and he had no time to mentally prepare. Instead, the chaos mage decided to wing it.

Markus looked down at the female mage, visually his face did not change, however his eye did raise as it met Nessa. In the end, his eyes said everything he needed to, a mixture of absolute confusion, and even admiration. He knew how hard what she had just done must have been and believed with certainty that her reaction was purely for survival, purely for the completion of their mission. While he had frozen upon seeing his sister, she had remained in control, and taken charge. For the brief moment Markus had looked into her eyes, he made his decision. After all, she had set the barriers for them, so obviously this was just for show.

Moving his hands down, he placed one upon the small of her back, placing the tip of his hands just above her rear, his fingers tickling her waist. He suddenly put on a false smile, adopting his usually sly grin as if his plans had been interrupted. Looking into the red-haired mages eyes, he could see distrust, and doubt. He knew immediately that she was watching the two, and their interaction with a measured gaze, gaging everything she saw. They would have to be convincing, otherwise this job would turn sour way sooner than he had expected.

Looking away, directly into Nessa’s eyes he spoke softly, but intentionally loud enough for the red headed female to ‘overhear’. “Don’t worry, I am sure we will have time alone” The chaos mage said with a sultry tone to his voice. Suddenly, he would lean in and push his lips upon Nessa’s, feeling her lips press into his.

When he turned away, back to the other mage, Markus’ eyes would not meet Nessa’s. “I am sorry…?” His voice held a slight questioning tone, as if he did not know how to address the red haired female. “I had not expected someone to be this far into the forest. I was just taking my girlfriend here for a bit of… solitary fun.” Markus said, eyeing the female and her demeanor. He did not know if there was any chance in her recognizing him. She was the same age, if not a bit younger than Nessa, having been only seven when Markus had run away. Markus only knew her face because of its association with his family, and the press.

The chaos mage started walking diagonal to the red head, and away from where he knew the estate to be. He knew himself as Nessa could go around, and would not want to be associated with the location. As he walked, he heard the female speak up.

“You never answered my question. I demand to know who you are?” The red-haired female asked, her voice cracking slightly in confusion. It was obvious this was not a situation she expected to find herself in, and the display of affection had thrown her off. After a moment, she spoke again her voice holding a bit more authority. “I am Victoria Marie Eldridge, Lightning Devil and Bellam Magi. Captain of the city guard, and guardian of law. The Last Daughter of the Eldridge Family, and the sole remaining heir.” She said looking at the two mages, her demeanor more of curiosity than aggression now. Markus found himself wondering why nobles and 'important' people always seemed to be so attached to titles. “As City Guard, I must be sure you are not up to anything… untoward. Besides, this forest is dangerous.”

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 15th March 2019, 4:34 pm

Nessa nodded at Markus's response about being more of an adopted progeny, rather than having received it through birth. That was interesting to know. That this 'being', whoever she was. Had decided that Markus was worthy of receiving her power.  "That's pretty interesting, I guess I kind of understand, I mean the Valkyries chose to contract with me to allow me to use their power. Which honestly is pretty amazing. My primary magic I've always had though, it runs in my family, on my mother's side. Apparently, we have a strong affinity with cosmic energies." She told him, she wasn't really sure if he was even interested in hearing this, but still, she felt comfortable enough to tell him anyway. It wasn't like it mattered if he made the connection as to who her mother was, as she had already taken the liberty to tell him about her, that one drunken evening they'd shard four months prior.

Upon arriving in the forest, and the unfortunate incident of them being discovered pretty quickly. Nessa's mind had been rattled, uncertain, she had thought on her feet. The best course of action was not to engage in a fight, but to hopefully dismiss the woman's cautious perspective of them. But then again, why would a guy and a girl be out in the wood alone, if not to spend time together, the forest wasn't really the ideal place for a date. But then again, if you wanted to be alone, for certain things. It made sense, and it was the least suspicious thing she could think of. So she had rolled with it, shifting into her role of 'disappointed partner'. She had looked up at Markus with hopeful eyes, hoping that he would understand, and would play along enough for them to convince the girl.

His dark eyes met hers, and although his expression did not change, she felt he understood what it was she was trying to do. She felt his arm moved around her, the tips of his fingers brushing the small of her back, giving her a slightly ticklish sensation over the skin there. He spoke, his voice sultry, and soft. Her breath caught in her throat, even if she knew it was an act, it felt really convincing.  Then she noticed him leaning in, moving in the close the distance between them. Her eyes widened a fraction, realising what he was about to do. Her mind began to race, wondering about whether she should stop him before he made the connection, they were after all; Trying to be just friends. But as his face grew closer and his soft lips pressing against hers, her body tense only for a moment, before relaxing against him. She would close her eyes, leaning forward, she returned the kiss, bringing her hands up to his face. She stroked his jawline with her fingers, forgetting for just a moment that someone was watching, she applied a little more pressure to the kiss. Then she abruptly felt his lips leave hers, and slowly she opened her eyes. She blinked at him for a moment, confused, and then as realisation dawned. She quickly brought her hands down, casually fiddling with her skirt. Her cheeks grew slightly pink, and she looked down at the ground, biting her lip to stop the stupid grin that was trying to creep onto her face.

    That had been... something.

For all that night had been, there was no doubt that even those kisses that were shared. They were still blurred by a drunken outline and fog. She could only remember snippets, and even that had felt groggy. But this time, she was very, much sober, and aware of everything. From the feel of his touch, the softness of the kiss, and well...the way she felt now. She felt warm all over, even slightly tingly and for a moment she hadn't wanted the kiss to stop. Okay Nessa, you need to chill. It was just a kiss; there's still a mission going on. She told herself in an attempt to pull herself out of the train of thought she was stuck in. She managed to surpress the overzealous smile, to look a little more relaxed and brought her gaze back up the girls, listening as Markus referred to her as his 'girlfriend', which only seemed to increase the blush in her cheeks, especially as he mentioned the words 'solitary fun'. Nessa brought her hand up and playfully slapped him on the chest.

"Oh my goodness baby, don't say that in front of a stranger!" She said in a playfully, bashful tone. The words spilling out of her mouth made her want the ground to swallow her whole. She had now referred to Markus as 'baby', which wasn't even a term of affection she would use for a partner. She had just heard her old friends use it on their respective partners, and was talking the same way they would have in this scenario. At the very least, it seemed to be working; at least the girl didn't look entirely like she was about to arrest them. She still appeared cautious though. As she demanded who they were, she introduced herself as Victoria Maria Eldridge. Nessa caught that, she had the same surname as Markus, and not only that she looked like him too.

Nessa didn't have much time to dwell on this, as she quickly tried to come up with an alias, coming up with the first two names that came to mind.  "Oh, my names Nessa Lux, I'm actually a mage from Fairy Tail. I'm doing some travelling with my guildmates. We're currently staying at an Inn in Bellum together but they keep interrupting our 'private' time, which is why we snuck out here to be alone. I mean I totally wouldn't do this normally, but you know how it is when you just can't keep your hands off each other." She said, leaning into Markus slightly as she said it. Hoping that as cheesy as it was, that it was at least somewhat believable to this girl.

Markus listened as Nessa spoke, she talked of the connection she had with her Valkyries. Markus found the entire thing fascinating, and was very much interested in meeting the remaining of her summons. “It must be nice, to have such a family, be part of a cycle… to have someone to teach you.” Markus said quietly. “I was born without magic, it was not very… my family.” Markus stopped speaking, unsure how to explain. “Let’s just say, I did not live up to my family’s expectation.” The chaos mage did not look at her as he spoke.

After leaving the Domain of Chaos, it did not take long for the two mages to find themselves in an unexpected situation, however they reacted fast and currently found themselves in a passionate embrace. Markus mind was spinning, using the brief moment to plan.

Markus took a sharp breath as she deepened the kiss, moving her hands to caress the line of his jaw, moving slowly down hiss face. For just a moment he tensed as she added more pressure to the kiss, and he had to fight his desire to push for more. His breath was shallow by the time he returned his eyes to the other woman.

The kiss had been far more than even he had been expecting, he could not wipe the memory from his mind. He knew the two of them had decided to be friends, for a moment he questioned if he had taken things to far. In the end Markus realized, were they really to remain friends then such an event should do nothing to hamper that, after all... It was merely acting. Despite that fact, Markus could not shake the fact that last time they had kissed the both of them had been intoxicated. The chaos mage would be sure to thank her quick thinking shortly.

Markus turned his eyes briefly to the Starlight Maiden as she spoke playfully, giving him a pet name, the kind of thing one would actually say to a lover. Markus remained silent, but kept the fake smile upon his face. The woman did not seem to fully trust them however, and in the end, she informed them of her name and title, before demanding them. Markus took a sharp breath as she spoke her full name. He already knew it, and even so, he could not help but reflect to the last time he had seen the female. As a child she was sweet, kind, and new. Yet the woman that spoke was stern, if not trying to regain her senses.

As Markus once more seemed to freeze in reflection Nessa spoke first, her tone sweet, as she still played their ruse. Markus listened as she introduced herself, and referred to Markus as her guildmate, before speaking of their inability to control their hands. Markus felt as the female leaned against him, her body once more fitting into his own.

The woman then spoke. “Nessa, I have heard your name though must say I did not recognize you, nor did I expect to see members of Fairy Tail here…” She paused for a moment, her mind seeming to contemplate. “Well, feel free to be on your way, just do not cause any issues. Whatever job it is that brings you here, I wish you the best of luck…” She seemed to pause again, before making a decision. “If you have the chance, feel free to visit the Eldridge Estate tonight. My parents are throwing a galla, and they would love guest with your… prestige. Should you decide to come, just state that you are Victorias esteemed guests.” She said, sounding official, and dignified. Markus’ breath caught in his throat. If they were anyone else, if he was anyone else, the offer would have been one that could actually aid their mission. As it stood however, Markus knew should they run into his parents, they would have to fight… He had no doubt while his sister never knew him enough to recognizes Markus, her parents certainly would. Before Nessa had a chance to speak, just to be safe Markus spoke up.

“While we appreciate the offer, we will be leaving the town soon. We just wished to have some time to ourselves before we continued on our way. Perhaps next time.” Markus said in the nicest tone he could muster. His hands still holding Nessa he started to lead her away, in a direction that would lead away from the estate, but not directly away, such a way that they could circle back later and should not run back into Victoria.

The chaos mage was silent as they walked, leaning in towards Nessa as if he couldn’t deal to let her go. As soon as they were a small distance away, enough that Markus was certain they would not be over heard the chaos mage would speak. “That was genius, and amazing reacting. Great plan Nessa…” Markus whispered quietly, before removing his arm from her side. In truth, he knew not what to say to her, but knew he had to return them to some sense of normality.
